Can't see Plex Media Server after following guide to transfer (one Mac to another)

Server Version#: (unable to see it)
Player Version#: Latest Plex Web

Hi, I have recently purchased a new SSD for my Mac mini to replace an ageing HDD. I was unable to clone my original HDD onto the SSD because it had a corrupt recovery partition, and I wanted a fresh install of the OS (Catalina).

After the clean install of macOS on the SSD, I followed the guide to the letter to transfer the Plex install (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/).

However, after copying the original Plex Media Server folder across, and the plist file, when I launch Plex it cannot see my server. I have rebooted and logged in/out etc as recommended in the guide but it makes no difference.

The only change to the original setup is that the OS now sits on a standalone SSD and the Plex media is all located on a separate internal HDD (volume ‘Data’), whereas beforehand the OS was on the same HDD as the media, albeit in it’s own partition (and the one containing the media was still called ‘Data’.

Very frustrating - it can’t find the Plex server at all now (called ‘Mac mini’).

Any help would be very much appreciated - perhaps I’m doing something wrong that is very simple but I can’t figure it out…

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem (with t differnt path to reach the problem point). Plex App on AppleTV does not connect to PMS.
The solution was to log out off Plex App, and re-register the app from the scratch, with request and link flow. It work like a charm.
I believe your problem has no reation to the recovery partition story… It is simply because of move from one disk to another.
