Crew - sorry if I’m duplicating threads here, can’t seem to find an answer to my issue. I piloted Plex on a very dated Mac with a jam packed 2Tb external HDD. I’ve since purchased a new Mac and larger external storage. I went ahead and copied media to new HDD.
I had problems with server not being found, then “searching for server” to no end. Finally, I spun up my original (Source) server on old Mac and now I can access the server on new (Destination) Mac but when editing library to utilize the larger HDD on new (Destination) Mac, only directories for old (Source) Mac is available. In other words, I am accessing the Source server from my Destination server. If I shut down my old (Source) server, I lose access from my new (Destination) server… confused yet?!
Fun times over here! Anyone have suggestions on how to fix my headache? Thanks!!
After signing out from my original server on old Mac (Source) and trying to “claim” server on new Mac (Destination), I’m back to where I started. Just sitting around Looking for servers…
Yes sir. I followed instructions and copied over all necessary files. I read the instructions for a second (more like 5th) time to see if I missed a step. I even did a complete uninstall and install of Plex, where it brings you to the “setup” webpage, following instructions as listed on link I provided in first post and still cannot get things properly transferred.
I’m at the point where I’ll just kick off a fresh server, but with Plex Pass, I don’t know how to start up a new server that’s already associated with existing.
What I’m saying is, I’ll create a brand new server simply to get everything working on my new Mac, but my account is associated with my existing server. I wouldn’t know how to create a brand new server, not associated with my existing server… but that’s not a fix. Of course I prefer not to do that if someone (or you) can help me figure this out. Thanks for your attention to my problem, pal,
Your account info is in the plist properly it would already be signed into your plex account once it is launched. if you are still running your old server as you mentioned, then the two are in conflict as they would both have the same server ID.
and now I can access the server on new (Destination) Mac but when editing library to utilize the larger HDD on new (Destination) Mac, only directories for old (Source) Mac is available.
then that is not the new server it is the old one.
if you don’t want it to be the same server, with server not running, delete the plist from the new server machine ( then reboot computer) then launch so it does not read old plist. ( you will need to reshare with folks if you are sharing)
Unless you had some specific network setting that only applied to old server IP but I can’t think of what that may be. What URL are you using to access on new machine?
To make it super simple. if both machines are Macs
copy the PMS folder and plist file to same locations on new machine
make sure all media files are in the same relative paths. (if it was /Volumes/BigHarddrive/Movies on old machine it need to be exact same on new machine)
make sure server on old machine is not running
put server app in applications folder on new machine and launch it
also may need to fix manual port forwarding in your router if you are using it to direct to new machines local IP
