My brother is staying at an AirBnB. The TV there is a Roku TV with Plex already installed. The Roku uses a PIN to add/remove apps. My brother added my Plex server to the Roku using plex.tv/link - I approved his request to get add my server to that TV. He uses Plex as a managed user, so after he got Plex up and running he switched to that managed user.
Well, he leaves the AirBnB tomorrow and as a managed user there is no option to sign out. There’s nothing in the settings. You have to be in the admin user to sign out. When I check “authorized devices” in the control panel the Roku TV he is on does not show up in there, so I can’t remove it. He can’t remove the app because it is password protected by the AirBnB host.
The only way I can get my server off that stupid TV is to give my brother the admin user PIN which will let him sign out. I don’t want him having my PIN, even temporarily. I can’t see anywhere how I can give his managed account the ability to sign out. Am I missing something?
This is screwed up. If you aren’t going to give managed users the ability to log out, at least give the admins the ability to remotely sign out of devices. The authorized devices in the control panel clearly isn’t complete.
With Roku, Plex is forced to do it like Roku wants it.
It works like this:
the Roku device is first signed into a Roku account
the Plex account is then linked to the Roku account
To sever the device in the BnB from your server, you must either:
Remove the BnB device from your Roku account
remove the link between your Plex account and your Roku account in general (which will remove all Roku devices, if you have any more). You can find that on the bottom of this page: Sign In | Plex
Be aware that you must do this ASAP because Roku has one time account sign-in, like AppleTV where your Plex account is accessible from other Roku devices that’s tied to the email registered with that Roku account.
The AirBnb should have used GUEST MODE where it puts the RokuTV or streaming stick in a temporary usable state for a guest for x amount of days or length of period of time. Any apps that have been registered and signed in during this time will be flushed out at the end of the time allowed or can be manually done by the visitor prior to leaving the premises.
Unfortunately, you will need to double check carefully in your devices on Plex.tv again to see if any Roku devices have shown up.
You really should have your brother create his very own Plex account and then add him as a Plex Friend to not have this happen again to YOUR account.
You can change your Plex Account password and have it sign out of all devices as a last and fast resort as well.
I changed the pin to my Plex server admin profile and he got in using it and was able to sign out through there, leaving the box checked that unlinked the channel from my Plex account. Should that do the trick?
It should but have him open up the Plex App on the RokuTV again. The whole linking process with a 4 or 5 digit code should appear again like the first time you had to set it up. That’s how you know your account is no longer tied to that device.
I changed the pin so he could get in my admin profile and have the ability to sign out and unlink the TV from my Roku account. I believe it worked but will confirm it this morning
