Can't stop Plex from overwritting Album Artist

Hello, I have very explicitly tagged all Files in a Music Library, but after adding them to Plex artists (and more?) are wrong.

I have set the Libraries Scanner to “Plex Music Scanner” and Agent to “Personal Media Artists” and enabled prefer local metadata.

In the Agents Section of “Personal Media Artists” I have moved “Local Media Assets” to the top.

Obviously I have hit Refresh all Metadata.

Is there anything else I can do? This is driving me crazy.

You cannot store albums by different album artists inside the same folder.

  1. you always have to maintain this folder structure:
    Music -> Album Artist -> Album -> tracks
  2. never, ever mix albums by different album artists

You will have to decide what to do with your box set:

  • Either you split it up into discrete albums, with each album credited to its own, individual album artist. Which means you will have to create separate folders for each album artist and place the album(s) by this artist inside.
  • Or you decide on one artist name for all these albums. Then you will have to change the album artist meta tag to reflect this one, common album artist.

Currently my Structure is:

Music -> Franchise -> [MP3/FLAC -> ] Album -> Tracks

All tracks feature the same Album artist. This structure is not possible? How else can I make it so I can find Albums by Franchise when looking manually, Artist is very irrelevant for my Search as I know nearly none of them.

Then make Franchise = Album Artist
Tag all albums inside a certain Franchise folder with the same album artist and it will work.

Thank you a lot, changing all Album Artists to Franchise Name was a great idea!
Now I have the problem that the old Items still show up.

I used Scan Library, Refresh all Metadata and Clean Trash. What else do I need to do to remove these entries?

Perform “Empty trash”.

In some extreme cases you will have to perform the Plex Dance
With music, you can omit step 4.
