Can't uninstall Plex MS. My post from another thread that is not getting responses

Same here. Plex wouldn’t update, on multiple trys/reboots. So I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling and got thrown in this mess too. I had another totally different issue a year ago, but similar in that uninstalling this program is a ■■■■ show and I have no idea why its this hard to just remove a program when you are “uninstalling” the program. JUST LET US REMOVE IT LIKE EVERY OTHER PROGRAM…wtf.
I’ve been through every thread back to 2016 and done every step from registry searches and deleting keys, deleting any folder, key, reference to Plex but when I try to reinstall with the newest DL from the Plex site I get the “older version of stopping Plex cannot be removed” error. Everyone elses fix has not helped me yet. Some people are getting the first error I got which actually gives you a version number of the “pms-shutdown.exe”, which I used to search and delete registry keys. However I have now gotten the “older version cannot be removed blah blah” which has no version numbers of any sort to reference.
Aside from fixing the problem can anyone at Plex please explain when we uninstall Plex why isn’t it actually uninstalling. Any other major software to uninstall it, maybe do a reg clean and you can be pretty sure its gone. WTF is going on here? This is the second major issue which has caused me to completely redo my entire 16Tb Plex library. I’m not doing it again or renewing my Plex Pass if this continues. Its 2020, and Plex isn’t a new software anymore.
EDIT: I also tried seeing if there was a Windows update pending that would help, even went as far as to update to the newest 2004 Feature update. Still same thing. Plex exists somewhere.
And to avoid any questions or someone from support going the route of saying, “I’m some sort of PC noob, or I messed it up from not knowing how to use a computer or something”. No I don’t write code, but I’ve been building PCs since the mid 90s and been a network admin for 8 years, so I know my way around software and hardware, and I definitely know how to “uninstall a program in Windows”. Other people clearly have this issue as well.

Server Version#: Will not say now, Just unable to uninstall “older version of stopping plex cannot be removed”

Have you read this article? https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967086-windows-errors-trying-to-upgrade-install-or-uninstall-plex-media-server/

Yes I did, one of the first things I saw before when I was actually getting a version number of the pms_shutdown.exe file. The link to the windows fix it tool was dead…lol.

Was thinking about using my other computer to run the server on but I don’t want to plague it with this BS either.

Working now.

I’ll be more specific next time…The link posted here does send me to another Plex article but the link to the Microsoft Fix tool on that page takes you to a Microsoft page with a Download Tool button that just gives error 404.

My bad. I didn’t try to download the tool.

No worries, I appreciate the help, I’m just frustrated cause it takes so long to get any help here from actual support, and when I do it’s going to be questions like, “have you checked your power cable?..Do you have an internet connection?”…even when you are a paying customer. The other frustrating aspect of this type of shizz, is that like 80% of the time when people figure out THEIR problem they never come back to share how they got it working. They just dip out cause THEY are good now.

Haha, but you’d be surprised how many times the answer is something simple like that.

Looks like MS stopped providing the FixIt tool and now suggest using Windows built in troubleshooter. Give that a shot.
