I’m getting this error message while trying to update to the latest version, does anyone know how to fix this? Im currently running Version 1.12.0.4829 and I want to update to 1.19.3
does anyone know how to fix this?
Have you been using 3rd-party “uninstaller” software, like Revo etc?
Did you relocate your Plex data folder away from its default?
Try this first:
- Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
- stop the “Plex Updater Service” from the Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+Esc “More Details”)
- deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc. Disable CCleaner and similar software if you have it running in the background.)
- for safety, reboot Windows
- download the installation exe of the newer server version and install it
is there a way i could back up all my data before reinstalling? and no, its still in the default location
If you follow my procedure, there is no need for that.
But if you absolutely have to, read https://support.plex.tv/articles/201539237-backing-up-plex-media-server-data/
Make sure your backup target is formatted with the NTFS file system. Fat32 or exFat won’t retain poster/art selections.
isn’t uninstalling part of ur procedure tho? ‘deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc. Disable CCleaner and similar software if you have it running in the background.)’
Uninstalling with the regular Windows software control panel will not remove your libraries and other Plex data.
i tried to uninstall plex media server with the regular Windows software control panel, but I’m getting the same error as trying to update it
Use the Microsoft FixIt! tool to uninstall it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed
Thanks, this has helped
