Can't watch 3D Movies in Plex Media Player

Hello everyone

I would like to watch some of my movies in 3D.
I did some resaerch here in the forum and found out that i must organize my filenames correcly with h-sbs (for side by side) and h-tab (top and bottom i think). I created an extra library for 3d movies. But after renaming, the files still only play in 2D mode. My Epson EH TW 9200 beamer also doenst switch into 3d mode. Can someone help me out?

Thanks alot

The naming is only for the Plex for Samsung app developed by Orca.

My Epson EH TW 9200 beamer also doenst switch into 3d mode.
You have to switch to your Epson into 3D mode manually.

Oh thanks, didnt understand that
I tried this before but when i switch into 3d mode i see two pictures that are too wide apart from each other. problem occurs with “side by side” and “top and bottom”…
reverse the glasses wont help.

heres a picture that shows the problem:

it looks very similiar by my glasses

Have you tried the 3D image on another app/device? What it looks like is the screen isn’t being recombined properly almost like the there is something causing them to be offset.

Does the SBS imagine look normal with the 2 images being extremely close together? Using PMP the image should be direct playing so this looks pretty wierd that the images are that far off.

I tried the 3d mode with my bluray player. Everything works fine here.
this problem occurs in every app on my pc, not only plex. seems to be a problem with my pc.
i checked the intel settings (i just have onboard graphics) but there arents that much 3d settings i could change…

no one who could help me with that issue?

Hmm that looks strange. As others have said there’s no 3D settings in Plex (off topic but it would be nice if there is a 3D mode so that the interface is at least usable when in 3D). The 3D process would entirely be handled by the display. Can you post a photo of how the scene above looks when the projector is in 2D mode? Also, do you experience the same issue with other files?

Also, with the projector in the proper 3D mode for the file (SBS for a SBS file) with your glasses on, with one eye closed, do you only see one image?

The problem occurs not only with that movie. When i switch into 3D Mode, my whole Windows desktop looks like that. Doesnt matter which film i play, i have always the problem that the two pictures are too wide apart form each other.

2d Mode just looks fine:

For comparison, here the sbs 3d mode:

tab 3d mode:

From your 2D mode picture it looks like the source is just a 2D movie not a 3D file. A 3D SBS file would have two separate images, one on each half of the screen.

Very strange… here is the original File:

I think this should be a 3d video format right? but doesnt matter. I decided to run my 3d movies with my bluray player and use plex “only” for 2d movies.

Thanks for you help!

With 3D Bluray it’s a bit more complicated than just ripping from the source. If that’s what you did to get your 3D file then it would be in MVC format rather than SBS or Over-Under (OU). The problem with MVC is that in most cases you need a 3D compatible GPU to play it back as most media players like VLC or Plex either won’t work with MVC or just play it back in 2D.

In order to make it playable via Plex you would need to take the MVC and convert it to SBS or OU. That basically involves converting the MVC file into the 2 separate (left and right) video streams then putting them together to form a SBS or OU file. Frankly it might just be easier for you to just play it directly from the disc.
