I believe when I first installed Plex (I may be wrong) I had no problem watching 3D movies stored from my P.C. uploaded to my Plex library, and thru my Samsung Smart 3D T.V. Lately though I try to watch and get an error message on the television, that format is not supported. I installed the Plex app, because the Samsung app is “iffy” at best, but I am able to watch the same files using it (when it works). Has anything changed?, am I doing something wrong? Otherwise the Plex app is great. I love the way it organizes everything and gives you all the info you could ever need for your media. Thanks for any advice.
What Version were you using when your videos worked on your TV?
That might help…
I’m not sure. I believe it’s updated like 2-3 times since I’ve had it, which is only a short time. It’s only the 3D movies that I’m having a problem with. Thank you very much for trying to help. I just let the latest update install. I may have accidentally changed something I wasn’t supposed to. I really have no idea.
I found an answer to my question so it may help someone else out. You have to re-name your 3D media to include .Half-SBS
So for example 3D Doctor Strange.Half-SBS. I also read where .H-SBS also works.
Automatically playing SBS and TAB 3D movies was something only ORCA’s Plex did as far as I know. Otherwise you have to grab the remote and change to 3D mode yourself.
3D mode wouldn’t even show up, and the 3D remote button didn’t work. The two pictures wouldn’t “marry” Now since re-nameing the 3D movies it works just fine.

The 3D button on your Samsung TV should work on all content. The TV really doesn’t know the difference. It’s not a human and doesn’t have a brain to tell it the image isn’t 3D or is 3D.
You should be able to watch an old 480 resolution version of a black and white show like the Three Stooges and be able to hit your 3D button on the TV and switch it to SbS or TaB.
I don’t know why it stopped working. 3D does not show up on my virtual
menue, unless the t.v. recognises 3 -D content. The regular remot has a 3D
button. The picture that was shown were 2 side by side pics. They did not
and would not marry together untill I renamed my files. It works fine now.
That’s weird. Maybe different year/models work differently.
Glad you got it working regardless!
IDK, Plex and Samsung just did a recent up-date
VERY FRUSTRATED. I rename movies as Plex Q&A says to do and it still will not let me change the settings on my tv for 3D. This worked when I first paid for Plex a few years ago. Whatever update I installed took it all away…
