I have issues with my media… located on a networked drive at my location… most of the content pixilates and freezes when trying to watch… and only when viewing through Plex, which makes me think that the content is having to go up onto the internet to a plex server and then back to my own network, meaning twice the up and down loads and on a network server that can actually reduce band width when too much streaming goes on… I under stand the desire to be able to use potables to get access when out of the home and so that aspect is great but what about when a person is at home and what if they lose the internet connection completely… I like the platform but this not allowing for local streaming is making me look some where else.
Oh, and please note, that the media does not have that glitch when I use a connect PC directly with the medal, so this is definitely an issue via the Plex systems.
If you have the server and clients on the same network subnet the playback should be local. The file is not being transmitted out and back in for local playback. Now it is possible there is an issue with your setup where the server and the client cannot see each other, and therefore the client is having to connect to your server “remotely” even though it’s right there – but that would be a networking issue. Not normal.
It’s also possible the issue is the client you are using to play back the media through the Plex server does not support the media correctly, but it thinks it does. So it’s trying (and failing) to play it back.
First thing you need to tell us what your server version is, and platform, and what your client you are trying to play back with is. Also if you don’t understand the subnet bit, tell us what the local IPs of the client and server are.
