Capture ambient light information directly from PMS?!

Recently I watched a youtube video of someone that created an ambient light led array using an HDMI splitter and an RPI. un/fortunately, I use the inbuild plex app on an LG WebOS tv so it’s not possible for me to capture the video feed from a player.

A solution has come up where I can get the current playtime of a stream and use this information to extract the ambient light settings from the frame using FFmpeg.

THE PROBLEM IS, viewOffset (the playback position) is only updated every 10 secs and for this solution to work well I would need real-time information.

is it possible to remove the throttle? can the viewOffset data be extracted from the PMS directly in the files?

Couldn’t you just process in real time, check sync every 10 secs, and monitor events for any pauses/skips/etc ?

I could but edge cases like fast forwarding and rewinding aren’t in the webhook and will remain out of sync for 10secs (minimal but annoying). If I was going to make the investment in buy the led strips, etc I would want the solution to be near perfect.

I use nvidia shield + android app called hue stream for my hue play lights.

Have the exact same problem. Also trying to do the same, as I have Plex App on the SmartTV.
Connecting a PC with Hue Sync + Plex Media Player on the TV is not an option.

The MediaContainer provides an updatedAt along with the viewOffset data.

So the time difference between: updatedAt and current viewOffset. Would be the initial lag/not synced for the hue lights.

I believe since the Server is only concerned with saving the viewOffset for continuing the video later, it will not request the client for the viewOffset in real-time and so it cannot provide it.

hue sync box $199 + $50 gift card at best buy

note1: doesn’t support dolby vision

note 2: if you have a receiver with a second hdmi output, you can use the hdmi2 to the syncbox, so you don’t have to try to stick the syncbox in the middle of multiple stream devices.
