Cast to DLNA Device

Good Evening,

I am trying to find out how I can cast a video to my devices. I am going to do my best to explain the issue I am having. So right now from within the Plex Media Server console I can browse to a video and hit the cast button which opens up the Chromecast options from within Chrome. This is great except I do not always want to cast it to my Chromecast. In some cases I want to cast the video to my Vierra ST60.

I can do this without plex by going to browse for the video file from within Windows 10 and right click on the file and chose cast to device. From within this screen I can choose what I assume are all DLNA compliant devices on my network. This works amazing and is actually much more reliable and faster than my Chromcast with the lone exception that I cannot figure out how to do it from within Plex. Along the same lines I would prefer to do the same from within the IOS application.

Am I missing something obvious? I have attached a screenshot showing what I can do in Windows 10 explorer that I would love to be able to do from within Plex.

Sounds like you are unfamiliar with what Plex is meant to be/do.

DLNA is an afterthought and antiquated method. It misses out on 99% of what Plex does.
Plex is a client/server “pull” setup, not a “push” setup like casting to a Chromecast. You run the Plex client on something connected to your TV (Roku, etc) and then interact with that directly to play content located on your Plex server.

What you CAN do is use the Plex app on your phone and then then tell it to launch content on a separate Plex client connected to your TV. Not really the same thing beneath the hood, but can sort of feel that way from a user experience point of view.

To piggyback on sremick’s post, I was initially confused with Plex casting, thinking it was a Chromecast type of device. It’s nothing of the sort - you can use Plex devices to control or send media to other Plex devices.
