I’ve been using Plex for at least a decade and have just started looking at both adding music to my library and using Plexamp.
Plexamp is pretty amazing and have remote access working through a reverse proxy using a https:// address with certificate. I’ve added the URL to the “Custom server access URLs” section of the plex server settings.
So far its working perfectly. Plexamp works with no issues when im both at home and away.
We’ve always been youtube music users and cast to a soundbar at home. When the soundbar is in “casting” mode, we have a small screen (nspanel pro with home assistant) that shows the album artwork, allows us to next/prev the tracks, control volume and turn it off.
When casting from plexamp mobile (iOS), we dont see any album art in Home assistant and can’t control the tracks.
We also have the plex integration in home assistant, which shows me the player with artwork - but again, can’t control the tracks nor the volume.
In the Plexamp ios app, i can see a “Use Remote Connection” option. I can’t seem to find any documentation on this setting, but when i turn it on - i can’t cast to any google devices.
Any chance there’s some more details on this setting? Or any advice for how to control playback on a device being casted to from Plexamp to match spotify/youtube music?
It’s an advanced setting, and what is does is sends the remote WAN IP to Chromecast instead of LAN, to account for some people’s messed up network configurations. It can totally break things too, if your router doesn’t loopback.
Thanks for the reply! Can I see that in the logs somewhere?
Looking at the logs from the Plexamp iOS app shows a 192-168-10-50-randomstringofcharacaters.plex.com (can’t quite remember the full address). Where the 192 address was the local IP of my plex server
If I have a URL set in the plex server settings, should it not send that publicly available URL instead?
I suppose I incorrectly assumed it would allow me to skip/prev the tracks via home assistant like I can whenever casting from any other app (YouTube/music/spotify/etc)
Is there a technical limitation why I can’t control from the device and why there’s no artwork?
If so, the Plex Chromecast receiver has been always fairly custom, which might explain why you can’t control it, but I’m not 100% (it’s totally separate code than Plexamp, and I don’t have any special insight into how Chromecast works).
