Dears,
I tried everything in my home to get my google home (1st gen) speaker 2-unit; to play stereo music.
After extensive trail error , swapping router and wifi accesspoints (mikrotik and ruckus), and their settings, I noticed stereo playback ONLY with mp3 streams, or NOT with Ogg.
I initiate playback via plexamp (4.12.4) on my iOS devices.
This is unfortunate as my collection is ogg mostly.
To mee it’s odd that ogg seems to play always only on the left channel (could also be right, but consistently on 1 of 2 speakers). As soon as an mp3 is up, both speakers play their respective channel.
Only thing that comes to mind (pure speculation) somehow Ogg is either:
- recognised as video?
- Speaker refuses to playback Ogg as more cpu heavy
- …
Would be happy for any fixes, work around; (as long as not recode my whole music library )
Not sure why the google speaker shows this behaviour. One workaround could be to always cast to mp3 , but to my knowledge, it’s not possible to force output format for casting, or?
edit: FLAC (next to MP3) also works as expected, so far OGG seems outlier.
