Casting

Hi all I have had my server set up for a while now on a pc running Windows 11 with all the latest updates installed. I have recently noticed that I cannot cast to my pc from my Android phone so that I can use usb audio to my DAC and to the amp. I do not know when or if this changed as its not something I do all the time. The second issue is that if I ask Alexa to play music from Plex it only plays christmas tunes as library radio. I have my server set up with a separate library for Christmas music and ordinary music. Is there a setting or something that I can tell it to ignore the Christmas music folder. I am not sure these two issues are related I would guess not. Apart from these two everything else seems to work jus fine. Other than installing the latest updates I have not changed any other settings. Thanks again in advance for your collective wisdom.

The capability was recently removed from Plex Web (announcement) and Plex for Win/Mac/Linux Desktop (announcement).

The recommendation is to use Plex HTPC instead (download, docs)

Thanks it works well.

I noticed that a library MUST have the Visibility of being available in “Global Search”. If you disable a library from being searchable, then the Alexa agent is unable to search your library for the audio file.

Edit your two music libraries, and choose to exclude the christmas music library from global search (the only option for this also excludes it from the home screen, meaning you cannot enable “recently added” and have them show up). Alexa should not be able to see this libraries now. But make sure that your other music library IS included in global search (its ok to exclude from home screen).

Thanks I’ll give it a go.

I have sorted the issue with Alexa only playing music from my christmas folder. It was a simple case of changing the name to xmas music and now it plays the normal music folder every time. Thanks for all the help.

Good to know I’m not going insane… Other than just playing media, casting to my PC from my Android phone is my most used feature… I have my computer connected to a massively awesome sound system that broadcasts throughout my. Problem is if I have to change a CD, adjust volume or pause, I have to walk across the whole loft. Having the controls on my phone was awesome!

I’ll try HTPC. I’ve read it sucks but hopefully not.

Edit: Never mind, I tried it, can’t control volume from the phone and the user interface sucks… I bought a lifetime license, and I’m a video game programmer… Seems to me it wouldn’t have been that tough to keep the feature in, sigh! Maybe they’ll bring it back!

If it’s mainly music you need the remote control for, install Plexamp on both PC and mobile.

I hadn’t thought of that. I have Plexamp on both my phone and PC… and… It works.
I had trouble figuring out how to control the audio level, the buttons on the side of my phone won’t work. Turns out if you tap the cast button, there is an audio slider there.

Thanks so much, at least it’s a workaround! I often have guests and didn’t want to be running to the office every time I needed to pause or change the volume!
