I am pretty new to the Rasplex and Raspberry world, hence, please apologize if this is a stupid question. I managed to setup Rasplex, however, have some issues with controlling it remotely.
When trying to control Rasplex I need both the remote control of the TV and the AVR. The remote control of the TV allows me to navigate all the menus (which the remote control of the AVR does not) while the remote control of the AVR allows me to adjust the volume (which the remote control of the TV does not). Of course it is pretty cumbersome to have a need for both remote controls. Hence, I was wondering if there is a way to fix this.
Rasplex shows a CEC adapter (Product ID: 1001, Vendor: 2708, Class: CEC, Version libCEC 4.0.1 - firmware v1) and allows me to change settings, however, I couldn’t figure out if this could be fixed by just changing settings. If so, could anybody please guide me? if not, is there a way to fix it by changing any config files of Rasplex?
But the volume level you are changing is from the rasplex or the AVR? You could do a software volume control but I always find controlling the volume from the AVR its always the aproach solution. Not only in terms of quality but for not blasting anything or anyone when you change sources.
Not sure if its any help to you but I have ATV4 -> Panasonic Viera VT50 -> Pioneer VSX-527. All connected through HDMI.
Audio goes from TV to AVR over ARC (audio return channel). So the AVR can send video to TV and TV send audio to AVR over same connection.
In this case the TV remote volume buttons change volume on AVR.
The remote I always use it ATV4 remote. When I turn on the ATV the TV turns on to correct HDMI input and the TV turns the AVR to the correct setting. ATV remote navigates through Plex and volume buttons change volume of AVR. Also when I turn off ATV with ATV remote everything powers down.
Sometimes if someone messes with it to fix it I turn off CEC on amp and TV and turn it back on. Seems to reset it.
I think the key in your case is getting the TV remote buttons to control AVR volume. Sorry can’t help but if you have ARC it might be worth a try. Or maybe plug RASPLEX into the TV instead of AVR if your TV is setup to send audio to the AVR.
I also first tried to connect RPI with my TV which is connected to the AVR via ARC because I could use the remote of my TV to adjust the volume of my AVR. Worked like a charm, however, with one major issue: I was not able to make the TV pass through DTS to the AVR. Unfortunately, 80% of my videos come with DTS which is why I eventually changed the configuration.
well that depends on your TV and what it can handle.
To be fare, you could get some kind of programable universal tv remote so it uses the it signal of the volume keys of your AVR and the rest of your TV. At least thats how I have it on my cable box
