Censorship Support (Skip/Mute/Blur)

Many movies nowadays include a throwaway sexual scenes just to appease the ratings god. These are otherwise good movies that may appeal to the family. It’s one thing to watch a sex scene with your own kid and another with your parents. The awkwardness is all inclusive.

I am suggesting a feature to incorporate a way to skip or mute the audio for a part of a movie.

This information (where to skip/mute) can be saved into a text file and be loaded when needed. It can also be shared similarly to how subs are at the moment.

for advanced censorship, blurring can also be supported and the same information added via the text file.

Skip and Mute should be something that can be done first, with Blur functionality added later as this can be harder to code/create.

While I support the freedom of expression by artists and directors, there are times when some scenes are not suitable for family viewing.

There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing such an option (so far with Förster limited interest from the community). I recommend you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.

There’s a slightly related and more popular suggestion asking for a profanity filter (based on subtitles as well as input from online sources too).

Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion, I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

You’re right. They are fairly similar.

The difference being that my siggestion is more open source format support (similar to subtitle support) rather than relying on a service, and something that the user has full control of.

But the idea of offering it as a service would be in the same vein.

Unfortunately as you pointed out this is not a popular feature request as per the comments in that thread.

Their initial scope is to have an option for users to define those spots/sections with a consideration to use available databases (or build an own one).
