Could a local certificate be used to verify PlexPass status? I am looking for a way to extend the time the Live TV can be used when the internet is down. The main reason I initially considered Plex was for the OTA access for local news and shows. If someone has a lifetime PlexPass, that would really suck to lose access to Live TV just because of no internet connection.
A certificate could be used to extend or possibly eliminate the need to verify so frequently.
The Plex client you are using should cache your Plex Pass status.

This is from a problem I noticed recently after our Plex server was without an internet connection. Live TV from the HDHomeRun was OK for the first 15 hours, but then we could not watch Live TV until the internet connection was restored. I suspect the 15 hours was just because maintenance ran around 15 hours after loosing the internet. Even after 15 hours, any client I tried could access the local server for local content, but I consider OTA as local content.
There should be a certificate installed that would allow a longer time before loosing access to Plex Pass features. The certificate could allow a months’ worth of verifying or maybe longer in the case of the ones that have a lifetime Pass.
So the play button on OTA content went away after 15 hrs?
After approximately 15 hours, I could go into Plex Live TV/DVR guide and select a channel. Then a spinning circle was displayed with no percent and after a bit, an error message popped and the display would return to the guide. At that time, I could access the HDHomeRun from that same server via WebUI and with a config program for the HDHomeRun. We could also watch TV from the HDHomeRun config program, so I know the connection to the tuner and content were working.
As soon as the internet connection was restored, I could watch live TV from the Plex server menu again.
If you could get to the guide and hit the play button, then it had nothing to do with verifying you had a Plex Pass. If you still have the logs from that time, I can take a look.

I’ll have to look into this, but the Live TV through OTA feature is actually free to all users and a Plex Pass is not needed so not being able to verify a Plex Pass should not have stopped being able to use the feature. The DVR part does require a Plex Pass so I can see that potentially stopping.

It has been a few months since I started using Plex, but I am thinking that even Live TV through OTA was not available to me until I purchased a Plex Pass. I believe that is why I started with the monthly subscription version because I had no idea if I could get it working or not.
In either case, if someone has a paid-up Plex Pass, they should be able to use the DVR, too, for extended period of time without an internet connection. Minimum of two weeks because of guide data, but longer if needed.
When the Live OTA feature was first introduced, it did require a Plex Pass. Sometime last year, after covid hit, Plex ran a promotion to offer this for free to all users. That promotion is still active.
