Certificate issue (Samsung+LG)

I have 4 users on my PMS that are affected by the expired certificate issue that none of the hardware manufacturers seem to want to fix. I also have 2 TV that would be affected, but they’re on the same home network.
While I’m a decent computer programmer, I’m certainly not a security expert… BUT, where I work, when we can’t get a signing authority to issue us a cert fast/cheap enough… we just self-sign a cert and move on.

Can Plex just ‘bake in’ a self signed cert into the client apps that run on Samsung, LG, and Hisense Smart TVs? This would fix (I’m guessing) HUNDREDS of users. (after they installed the new version)

Thanks for reading my rant.

Plex cannot do this, because the app environment doesn’t allow it.
As a developer, to have your app available in the app store, you have to abide by the rules. Otherwise there would be no Plex app.

That makes sense. Thank you for the response.

Wait a minute… I later realized that NetFlix and Hulu are also both apps. And they also both stream. And the also both have security. And… And… And…

How come they didn’t break when the Samsung/LG/Hisense certificate expired?

I’ll change my question to- Why doesn’t Plex circumvent the cert issue like other similar apps do?

Thanks.

Netflix and Hulu don’t use the same cert that Plex did. They are big and powerful enough to get their own certs included in the TV OS’s. They’ll still expire at some point and then be in the exact same situation.
