LG plex player suddenly not connecting to working servers

Since yesterday, plex on my LG tv won’t connect to servers that are working.

Reinstalled and same issue.

Nothing changed.

I can use the site on iPad and Apple TV and connect and stream fine! Just not LG app.
On the tv it says the servers are “unavailable “

I am on web os 3.9.0
Latest version of the LG app
Servers work fine using the app on iPad or Apple TV app, just not LG tv

Same thing here.

Plex Server Version: 1.24.3.5033
Plex Client Version: 5.25.2
Plex Platform Version: 4.9.0

TV: LG webOS TV UM7600PLB
TV Software Version: 05.10.25

I could workaround on local network updating “Secure connections” to “Preferred” is was “Required”.
For remote LG device, it is not able to reach my server, even with new configuration.

I realized that my LG TV is not able to establish secure connection with server.

Same issue here, stopped working as of yesterday on both my LG TVs.

Looks like a certificate issue, my Plex server is remote.

Fix was to set “Allow Insecure Connections” to “Always” in the LG Plex App.

Same for me, got two LG TVs that can’t connect to any Plex servers, while iOS, macOS and android clients all work fine.

Could this have anything to do with the letsencrypt certificate issue?

3 days now and still not working.
No updates as I am on the latest version of the app.

Tons of us are having the same issue

The fix is this thread, just allow insecure connections in the Plex app.

Thanks, don’t think any of us saw that.

Ugh that’s not great. Still a tv model that is updated all the time as well.

Why do I feel support will be totally removed soon then and not just unsecured.

They already are “unsupported”. They won’t get an update, ever. The problem won’t be fixed, ever. The workaround may work today, and forever break tomorrow.

While it sucks, there are external devices you can purchase a lot cheaper to restore your streaming experience. They’re far cheaper to replace when the time comes, rather than replacing a display that works, but the smarts fell out of support.

That’s not great, my TVs are definitely still supported by the manufacturer, an OLED55B8 and an SK8500, which both received firmware updates on 25/08/21 and are running webOS 5.

I see that @carlos_bombonatti’s TV is also running webOS 5

I didn’t receive that email even though my affected TVs are used to access Plex practically every day, but then that’s probably because, according to the announcement, they’re still supported as they’re running webOS 5.

I think a Plex admin needs to look into this as if supposedly currently supported models are being affected this is a problem.

Just to join in, I am using webos 5.10 and a OLED65B9 and have the same problem as well.

Are you sure TVs have WebOS 5? According to the OLED55B8 model from 2018, they had WebOS 4. Please note that released firmware versions 5.x.x do not mean WebOS 5.

Ah, okay, that’s a fair point if firmware version doesn’t map to webOS version (which is stupid and confusing). How do I find out what webOS version I’m running?

OK, add me to the list…

I have an LG OLED77C8LLA - it’s only 2 years old - how can it suddenly be un-supported?

It just had an OS update to SW 05.40.09, webOS 4.4.0

So whose problem is this? is it the Plex app or the TV’s OS or what?

Could do with a real answer to this, whilst the bodge of turning off secured connexions works, it’s not a proper solution is it?

Edit - To be clear, who’s problem is this? are Plex suggesting it’s an LG issue? What exactly needs to be said to LG for them to (1) understand the problem, and (2) fix it.

Suggesting a 2 year old high end TV is too old to still be supported is not really an answer.

I couldn’t find the WebOS version on my TV. I only found the firmware version.
But take a look directly at the Plex web interface. In the settings, select Authorized Devices and find your TV.
Or in PLEX application directly on TV, in Settings and About Plex you can see Platform version/WebOS version

webOS 4.4.0

Thank you @CooLajz :+1:

Samsung Smart TV 2019 Running Tizen 5 which is still fully supported
getting Playback error when Remote Streaming

Someone linked this issue with lets encrypt root certificate expiration, I could not confirm it yet.

More details here:

Looking inside TV, I could find /usr/share/stt/cacert-2016-09-14.pem file where I could find “DST Root CA X3” and nothing about “ISRG Root X1”.

That’s very bad and it feels arbitrary. First things first, LG still updating Web OS <= 5. Clearly LG wont’t update my WebOS from 4.9 to 5 (I got a OLEDC955), so basically this will in time force us to update. Either TV manufactures truly commit to support their TV OS for longer, or using these SMART OS is absolutely not worth and I should just buy a Shield.
