Samsung Smart Hub Plex integration dead as of latest version

Server Version#: 1.23.1.4528
Player Version#: 5.15.1 (platform version 3)

@sLumpy noticed the smart hub is broken in the lastest version. It wasn’t updating at all so I tried a fresh install and now it doesn’t even show up. Tried all the usual stuff but no difference.

I have the same problem with this version. Can confirm that Smart hub stopped updating.

Thank you for confirming I’m not the only one.

Same over here. Since today PLEX won’t open/startup on Samsung TV. Please fix it PLEX.

Any acknowledgement from Plex staff of this issue yet?

@sLumpy @markus101 ?

Sorry, I’ve been away on parental leave and still catching up. I’ve logged an internal ticket to investigate.

Was watching all day, went to switch users and then the user screen came up with no images. Couldn’t do anything. Reset app and showed me as offline. told me to reconnect but that done nothing. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Loads the starting screen. Click next to link TV and get “an unknown error has occurred”. Done a cold boot and factory reset of the TV, same. Nothing was registering on the console.

I have similar issues (all Samsung TV’s). For TV’s already logged in it showed 1 of the 4 users however the user was marked as offline (the servers presence is verified by test) and couldn’t see other users to select. For TV’s not logged in I cannot now log in using link to TV, 'unknown error has occurred, which is naturally very helpful.

No worries.

I note on the Status page that Plex have changed their SSL certificate provider today. I would not be surprised if the new Certificate Authority’s root certificate is not pre-installed on a number of embedded devices. I have a Series 6 Samsung TV (UA55JU6400 purchased in 2016) and suspect the new CA Root won’t be pre-installed.

Still investigating, but that’s my guess at this stage.

Yep, definitely an SSL Certificate issue - if I open the web browser on the TV and visit https://plex.tv/ I get an SSL Certificate error. This should work without errors and on my Windows 10 PC, its fine.

The old certificate was a Digicert certificate, expiring on 14 June, so the team have obviously swapped that out ahead of its expiry. They’ve moved to Lets Encrypt, which doesn’t have the greatest compatibility. Worse, Lets Encrypt is currently using a root certificate that expires 1 October 2021, so if this hasn’t already broken for you, it probably will shortly.

This might be worth reading for some background info - https://www.tomsguide.com/news/smart-home-cert-disaster

Probably need to look at installing the root certificate manually, but I think that’ll require rooting the TV.

Hi @jcnz82

I have mentioned you in another post where the same issue (At least from what I can see) is being reported, I have made reference to the details you have posted here.

But just to add I am also receiving the “SSL Certificate error” when accessing plex.tv from my Samsung TV

I tried talking to Samsung Support via their web chat thing to see if they can raise a ticket. I don’t think they’ll actually do that until I’ve gone through all their troubleshooting steps; reinstalling the app, resetting Smart Hub and likely Factory Resetting the TV. I’m reluctant to do all those things because I’m confident it won’t help, and in fact it’ll probably make it worse.

In any case, even if the ticket is escalated to an engineer who can actually fix the problem, it probably won’t be fixed without a firmware update, which probably won’t ever happen for a 5 year old device.

It should be possible to manually install a CA Root, but I think it would require rooting the TV
