Change folders without losing custom poster artwork & custom metadata?

I want to change the folder names and locations of all my collections, but I have a ton of custom artwork and metadata for some of my collections…

I tried creating the new folders on my server hard drives, and then adding those new folder locations to my PLEX libraries, and then COPYING (not moving) all files from the original folder to the new folder, and then deleting old folder, but it regrettably lost all my custom artwork and metadata.

How can I do this without losing all existing artwork and metadata?

I hope I explained myself with correct terminology, otherwise please ask for clarity.

I wasn’t aware that you could save the artwork with the same file name, so for the last 5 years, I simply created the artwork and added the artwork (drag and drop, or URL on some) when logged into PLEX. So, it’s too late to fix things now. But I still have 5yrs worth of custom artwork and metadata that I don’t want to lose.

Question directly related to this discussion:

If you don’t have posters stored locally with the movie files, they still obviously must exist somewhere. Is there any sort of script or any guidance that you could provide on how I might determine the location for the posters?

If I could figure out a way to determine where the poster associated with each movie is located, I’m wondering if I could generate a script that will copy the posters so that I can have local copies with the movies.
