Change layout for TV shows and Movies?

Hi,

I have been searching for...days and haven't been able to figure out how to do this.

I have so many movies in my list. I don't have a clue what half of them are and I usually fall back to the movie summaries to help jog my memory.

How would I change my movie layout to look like the one in this Youtube video? It's an earlier version of Rasplex though..

skip to like ~4:00 in the video.

I would like to be able to scan over the movie posters and be able to see the details like that. I hate having to click the movie, read it, back out and repeat. I also don't really like the "list" mode when you scroll way to the right. Was this function removed? I cannot find this option ANYWHERE in the menus and I feel like it should be there..

Hopefully someone can help me out. I think I will try the refocus skin just for fun in the mean time.

This is a skin issue, the layout you are refering to was in an old skin named "MediaStream". This skin will not be supported anymore by plex as far as i know.

It doesnt mean that you cannot use it, but it wont be delivered in strandard with plex nor will be maintained by plex guys.

You can probably still find that skin on the web and install it on your rpi, although there is not guarantee that it'll work without any artefacts in future versions :)

Oh I understand. It kinda just looked like the default plex skin so I thought maybe it was just customized.

I ended up finding extra skins.

So far they all have their own problem. Refocus is great, but I can't use it because my girlfriend watches a lot of "Channels", and it doesnt work on refocus.

I will figure something out.

I just assumed the default Plex theme would come with options to change layouts!

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Unfortunately recent PHT developments by the Plex team handicap all skins, in addition to having added new features which the older skins are obviously lacking.

Very few alternate skins are well adapted to modern PHT versions, and in my opinion the best of them is "Night", closely followed by "Amber" (less fancy, but quite reliable).

Both those skins can also be installed for and used in RasPlex, but RasPlex is only optimized for the original 'Plex' skin.

When using alternate skins with RasPlex you'll have to be prepared for slightly slower response and longer delays.
You'll also miss the RasPlex-specific extra menus for some system settings and the 'Precache Controls'.
So to access these you will have to switch to the original skin, at least temporarily.

Interesting timing, just happened to look at this post right after posting a request to include PlexAeon in the included skin list. PlexAeon is a lot like "Night" only with more features (of course including view changes) and a slightly nicer look (IMO). You can look at it here: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/67825-plexaeon-for-plex-home-theater-released-maverick214/

PlexAeon is also EXTREMELY graphics-intensive, so with that skin you will spend much of your time waiting for picture loads and screen redraws.

And since it tries to use everything in maximized resolution its picture caching is going to consume a lot more RAM than usual.

(This applies not only to poster pictures and fanart, but also to the pictures used for the GUI itself.)

And that RAM usage is probably why most of my experiments at using PlexAeon with RasPlex have ended in crashes... :(

It may look good, and on a PC it may work well, but i can't recommend PlexAeon for RasPlex. It demands heavier resources.
