The introduction of the new Plex TV Series scanner has given Plex the ability to rename seasons. Awesome. I am having trouble getting it work however. I can set the title metadata for the season [ie: metadata.season[0].title=“Whatever”] and it shows up in the cached xml file but it doesn’t show up in Plex itself.
Not a complete surprise because the new scanner Plex TV Series libraries have the option “Use season titles” to turn on this support. However, when I change my scanner to Plex TV Series, my agent gets deselected and when I reselect it, switches back to the scanner Plex Series. My guess is I need to turn on an option in my agent or I need change my agent type from Agent.TV_Shows to Agent.??? to allow me to use the new Plex TV Series scanner and get that option to allow me to use the season titles. The problem is I can’t find the bundle for the Plex TV Series scanner. The New Movie bundle suggests that agent type is probably the same as does the fact I can set the xml data …
Any idea what I need to do to get support for the new scanner? Largely I just want support for renaming seasons but I also assume eventually support for the old Plex Series scanner will go away.
The Plex TV Series agent doesn’t work with complementing 3rd party scanners the way the old Python based agents did. Not sure if this will stay this way.
Well that would make things more difficult :). I assume it is equally true that there isn’t a way to say extend the Plex Series scanner to add in the turn on season names option?
For the libraries talking to standard TV shows, that works great. This is a custom agent for non-TV shows that fit the TV Show format better than say a movie format. This agent is pulling data that isn’t available anywhere other than in my own database locally on the machine. I had originally implemented it year and years ago as Personal Media, but I found it lacking in what information I could provide to plex, so I wrote my own agent to handle it (it is also easier to maintain overall IMO). It doesn’t need to rename seasons (I’ve been using it as season-less for years), but, if I can rename them, that does support the data a bit better. I can also manually add the season titles for the few where that would be handy anyway, but I figured if I could make it happening automagically, that is handy.
