Is there a method for changing the photo of an actor? For example if I search for “Alan Tudyk” I now get a picture of the Joker (From Harley Quinn), and I get a picture of Harley Quinn for Kaley Cuoco. I’m guessing it’s because it’s the most recent thing I’ve added them from, but it’s highly annoying.
Also it’s still annoying that when I search for “Alan Tudyk” I get:
Alan Tudyk in “Movies”
Alan Tudyk in “Cartoons”
Alan Tudyk in “Current TV Shows”
Alan Tudyk in “Ended TV Shows”
Instead of just “Alan Tudyk”, but I know that’s been a battle raging for quite a while now.
But I would like to go back to seeing an actual headshot for actors without directly hopping into the database. (I can, but would rather have a more elegant solution)
While it’s nice to ensure the pictures are recent, in this example, the two look nothing alike, and seeing Sy Borgman on the cast list for Seinfeld feels like a bug.
TVDB is insane requiring the Cartoon Image for an actor voicing a role.
Plex uses the last image drawn for every image for that actor.
Work-around - long and drawn out - refresh metadata for Seinfeld, George’s (and
Wayne’s - wait until you see him in Jurassic Park) picture(s) will blanket Plex until the next time.
Workaround requires picking one show that matters over other shows, which doesn’t really work. I don’t agree or disagree with the TVDB policy over cartoon image (it both makes sense and doesn’t, depending on perspective).
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback though, I do appreciate it. Ultimately, it would be nice if Plex allowed for per-show / per-movie actor artwork, where such artwork exists.
No, it requires picking a show wherein the Human Version is shown - unless you want Daffy Duck playing the role as President (Trump) in some show.
Oh, yes - users are aware.
It doesn’t appear Plex is.
You can’t imagine my joy at seeing the Rodent Nick Nolte played in Mandalorian proudly displayed beside Eddie Murphy in the 48 Hour Movies. Lived a long time to see that. Leaves something to be desired.
Joaquin Phoenix is a human in Joker, and his character doesn’t look an awful lot like him.
Johnny Depp is a very different looking human depending on which character he’s playing.
Movies have similar problems as TV shows. It would be nice if we have the option to display the character photo for the actor. If not, it would be nice if we could specify the singular photo to be used, instead of having to re-refresh a particular show/movie each time that actor does something new.
You may describe the character photos as ‘insane’, but some people like them. The only issue here is a default choice (most recent scanned item character picture) and limitation (inability to change this choice / manually customise this metadata used, unlike other types of metadata) imposed by Plex.
Thank you again for your time, appreciate it. The workarounds you’ve suggested can be suitable in some environments. Unfortunately, I barely have the time to manage my metadata correctly as it is. I definitely don’t have the time to go play whack-a-mole every time it changes, so they don’t fit my needs. Hopefully Plex will solve this, but I won’t be losing any sleep over this eitherway.
If TVDB is using character pictures for each show Plex should do it as well. Or just not fetch it from TVDB at all.
Plex should honestly revamp the entire actor functionality. It isn’t able to gather the same actor across libraries either. Hopefully Plex will rebuild the entire thing at some point. I just hope whatever they do it happens this century.
