Changing metadata doesn't trigger rescan and display of changed metadata

Server Version#: latest (always)
Player Version#: latest (always)

I have had this issue for a long time, but it never bothered me enough to be content with the workaround.

After i have added an album to my library, Plex automatically detects the change and after the scan the album is added. But if i change metadata, the album title f.e., this change doesn’t trigger the automatic scan. In addition, a manual scan or metadata refresh doesn’t let Plex change the album title despite the metadata in Plex does show the new album title. The only workaround is to remove the album folder and add it again. Only then, the correct album title is shown. Is there another way to force Plex to detect and display these changes?

This sentence is unclear.

Don’t expect that all changes on the server are immediately reflected in all clients. Do at least leave the preplay page of that album and re-enter it.
Sometimes refreshing the web app in the browser is necessary to see the changed metadata.

I don’t expect changes instantly, but at some point the changed metadata should be reflected on the web app or the clients. But small changes are never, not 10 scans or refreshes later in a span of 1 week. If you, as an example have an album consisting of 10 tracks and you misspelled the artist on 2 tracks (or the artist is missing), Plex splits this album into two albums with the same artwork and album title. If i now change the metadata (Plex web app, Plexamp or any metadata software), the change is not triggering a scan and is never acknowledged by further scans in the future as long as i don’t touch the folder on the hard disk. I can just add a comma to the folder name and *poof* a scan is triggered and the album shown with the correct metadata. But it doesn’t work, if i only change any metadata in the audio files. Which is very odd. I think, that Plex has a certain threshold for acknowledging metadata changes. Only a fresh scan by adding files anew will display the changed metadata. I make rarely mistakes with my metadata, so it’s not a common issue.

I’d take a look at the file date before and after applying a metadata change. Some metadata editors are intentionally retaining the original time stamp of the media file during edits.
Depending on the operating system of the file server and/or Plex server, the time stamp can be the only method to detect changes.
