I have had this issue since first installing Plex server last year…
Steps to reproduce:
Take a music folder and upload to Plex server, change meta data info on the files after this from outside Plex server and the server does not update the changes.
Remove folder and re add and the server sees the updated meta data.
This surely must be a bug?
Most of the changes in metadata will be re-read by Plex if you “Refresh Metadata” at the Album-level.
However, if the changes in the metadata would cause a structural change in the database (i.e. albums merging or splitting, albums switching artists), then it can be necessary to perform the procedure that you are describing above.
And it wouldn’t be possible upon refresh meta data for the server to somehow treat the album in the same way as I had physically removed it and readdded to the server? .i.e the server auto removes and reads the album?
Because the refresh metadata option is useless at this point for me unfortunately
