Hey forum!
I’ve recently started with Plex and I’m amazed. (really like it).
Now to my question. I’d like to know if it’s possible to use channels on the Apple TV 3 or if I need an Apple TV 4 then, when the Plex App is released?

You can get the UAS (unsupported app store installer) and install or uninstall unofficial channels from your aTV2/3 and also the 4 if/when Plex is accepted in the app store:
Also you can install official Plex channels using PlexWeb on the aTV2/3 and more then likely directly from the 4 same as stated above for the Plex app.
SimpleX also can be used for $3 apparently on the aTV4, haven’t used it personally or plan on it since the aTV4 has no 4K support (the new amazon FTV and the new Roku does):
