The new update broke accented characters (á, é, ñ, ü, etc.) on subtitles, displaying now a (unicode replacement character (U+FFFD)) in their place, something that before the update wasn’t an issue. Seems like the player is unable to properly render text in UTF-8/ANSI (Windows-1252).
Do a search for ansi/utf/ascii terms in this forum. I’ve seen a few threads regarding this. I remember seeing a solution in some of them, but they involve fixing it on your end. It looks like they know about the problem tho, so you could just wait instead of modifying your files.
Your text file is either encoded in one of the many ANSI codepages, or it is in UTF-8.
It can’t be in both at the same time.
Convert your subtitle files to all use UTF-8 (with BOM).
