Chasing stuttering issues and cannot direct stream file

Video files are typically x265 8 or 10 bit, 1920x1080p 24fps

I’ve been chasing a micro stutter issue which I initially thought was my TV, but If I use the old style player there’s no stutter. That led me to try the new player with direct play disabled, but if I try that, my appletv downloads for 10 seconds at a 900+MBPs before ultimately crashing. I haven’t been able to find anything in the server logs as to what’s causing it.

Has anyone run into this stuttering issue recently and is there any known direct streaming bug with this tvOS player version?

The legacy Apple TV app hasn’t been updated in over a year and a half.

If you search the forum for Apple TV stutter, I’m sure you’ll find some relevant results (though not much in the way of solutions).

The only guidance right now would be to try the beta (TestFlight) app, if you happen to be enrolled. If not, you’ll need to wait for its general release.

Ah ok. I remember the tvOS client being old when I first got my ATV, but didn’t realize it hasn’t updated for quite a while.

Might be time to try an alternative client until they get it together.

Infuse is great, if you can stomach the interface (and the cost). It’ll play anything with no issues.

Keep checking the test flight link. I think it’s full again after they opened more slots last week, but spots may open if people leave.

I was fortunate to get Plex pass before any of the major price hikes, so I have no problem spending on a premium client if it actually works. Might actually be able to watch some HDR content locally with it. Heard good things about Plezy too.

Sad to see that the tvOS version is so old and testflight is full. Hopefully we see some updates soon.
