Hi,
Looking for a cheapest possible Plex Client for the Bedroom. No HD or even 5.1 Audio or 4k needed. OS does not matter Only must is NIC and 1080p playback (no wifi). And it should be small so it can fit somewhere behing the TV. Any suggestions beside RPi3 and FireTV?
OK. I’m gonna bite. Why not the Raspberry Pi? I haven’t used it myself, but Roku’s might be worth looking into. Perhaps the earlier models are being discounted at a low price that would fit.
I have to agree with the suggestions of the Raspberry Pi. I’ve tried a couple different solutions, and the Raspberry Pi has been the most stable – and it “just works” compared to some recurring fiddling required with several of the other setups.
I would tend to agree with the rest here. If you’re looking for “cheap” and a solid device, the RPi (2 or 3) with Rasplex is a great option. It has a NIC like you want and if your TV is capable, the HDMI CEC option is great for controlling the RPi.
A Roku is also a good option. The Roku 2 will allow for a NIC and the latest Plex release for the Roku is a nice bump in functionality for the Roku.
I use both and think either is a great option. By the time you pay for a case, a micro SD and a power supply for the RPi, you’re probably starting to get close to even as far as costs are concerned.

Thank you all for your suggestions - I think I will stick with the Pi as i like the Embedded Build from PMP
Do you have a smart tv? Chances are there is already a free client available for it!! This is how I got started and decided to buy in fully. You asked for the cheapest. It doesn’t get cheaper than free!
