Hi - I have just moved my Plex server over to a Raspberry Pi (3 B+) - many thanks to uglymagoo for the howto! I want to just check my understanding of a few things is correct.
Currently running;
Linux 4.14.62-v7+ #1134 SMP Tue Aug 14 17:10:10 BST 2018 armv7l GNU/Linux
Server Version 1.13.5.5291
Hauppauge winTV dualHD: 2040:0265 Hauppauge
Firmware: dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw
I’m not getting any HD channels from the tuner. This is also due to the kernel version - as the drivers will be included at that point?
Plex is currently saying there is an update available… I guess this is because it hasn’t been made available in the repo yet, and my normal apt update and upgrade will take care of that (the repo is in my dists lists).
I am only getting a single tuner, and that because I don’t have the 4.17 kernel. I can either wait for that or build it myself (I’m inclined to wait).
Also - do people run commercial removal? I’m worried that it says ‘uses a lot of CPU’ …
Many thanks for any advice - I just don’t want to have made some assumptions that are wrong and can be easily fixed
Are we talking about European HEVC 1080p DVB-T2 HD channels? I have noticed the same problem recently in Germany. I will take a look at this issue on the weekend.
Plex did not publicly announce the update so I was not notified Please check the repo tomorrow again.
Raspbian will switch sooner or later to 4.17+. I have also build 4.17 on my own. The following instructions are simple and just work:
Have not used it at all but I would suspect it’s a little too much for the RPi 3
Great, thank you - and also, thanks for the ‘how to’, it really made the install smooth.
I’m UK based, and I can’t seem to get DVB-T2 channels on freeview. My tv can see them, so it’s not the aerial.
If I can’t wait for 4.17, I’ll have a look at cross compiling - it’ll come down to how well the pi works. I might do some tests with the advert skipping and see what the load and temp looks like (I’ll post here).
I just tested the DualHD on three systems: Fedora 28 (amd64), Arch Linux (amd64) and my RPi with Raspbian and my 4.17 kernel. tvheadend does work very well. PMS does not find any channels. Also the dualHD regularly causes kernel Oops e.g. when unplugging the device. In conclusion: the dualHD is no fun at all for Plex DVR DVB-T2 on any Linux system.
I personally only use the dualHD with tvheadend on my RPi to watch local tv in Germany in KODI. That does work very well.
