I am using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as my Plex server. This OS gets updated periodically to point releases that incorporate a new kernel. E.g. 22.04.3 uses kernel 6.2
Plex lists Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD as a supported tuner. Although the drivers are included as part of the operation system, the standard version of the drivers do not tune DVB-T2 HD channels. Hauppauge support points to a ppa to update your kernel media tree with a patched version of the driver to handle auto DVB-T/DVB-T2 switching at the driver level when software does not do it explicitly.
The ppa that enables this functionality is not always up to date, meaning I am stuck on a certain kernel version if I want to retain HD channels. E.g. currently the ppa only supports up to 5.19 kernel, but the OS has updated to the latest point release using the 6.2 kernel.
Other software (MythTV, TVHeadend, etc) does not require a patched version of the Hauppauge driver to handle automatic DVB-T/DVB-T2 switching correctly.
Can Plex be updated so that it doesn’t rely on patched drivers to tune DVB-T2 HD channels?
I’m happy to supply log files and test as required.
Many thanks!
