Christmas wishes to the Devs

Hi,

overall the Plex client for XBox One is getting better and better.

But please let me post some wishes to the Devs to make it even better:

  1. Native subtitle support (to get rid of the permanent transcoding with subs enabled)
  2. Translation to other languages (right now the kinect voice commands are useless without)
  3. Get rid of the need for XBox Live (a direct connection just with entering the server IP would be great)
  4. Please change the orange color to something else (the style of the Xbox gui is very clean. The style of the Plex App too, but not with this flashing orange color)
  5. Play the next episode within TV Shows automatically.

Thats it. I hope one of the Devs will read this.

And yes these are many wishes, but - hey - its almost Christmas!

The devs (well, @moussa.uk and, to less of an extent at the moment, me) read every post here - even if we don’t get around to replying to them. Thanks for all the constructive input - it’s a good way to affect our priorities.

I’ll go through your wishes :smiley:

  1. High up on our list. This is especially brutal since the XB1 can Direct Play so much, and then subs defeat it
  2. Aware of this as an annoyance - will try an bump the priority up of this. Which Kinect commands in particular?
  3. Still looking into this one
  4. I like the orange! (but yes, I’d expect it to look more like the TV apps/Roku/PMP over time - so probably a bit more subdued)
  5. This is done when you play from a TV show level, but we have improvements pending

Basically everything that pops up when you say “Xbox, select” within the app has to be translated so we can use it in other languages.

For the orange color: ok, if the Devs like it, there is no hope :slight_smile:
For the subs: normally i don’t need any subs at all. But e.g. Lord of the Rings - there are some scenes spoken in elvish. Therefore subs (without transcoding) would be nice cause my elvish is not the best.

Some more words about translation and voice commands:

I’m aware of the command “Xbox select” in German it is “Xbox auswählen”.
The problems starts with standard commands like “Play” or “Resume”. The voice commands itselfs are embedded in the xbox system level. In my case the native language is german and the xbox expected commands which are pronounced in german.
So e.g. the “Resume” command: i can invite a pure english speaking Oxford student. He won’t be able to trigger the “Resume” command, because the Xbox expects a spoken command with German pronunciation.
Since there is no Resume in german you have to try to speak “Resume” in german which is nearly impossible. After several funny attempts with “R-e-e-s-u-m-m-h-e-e-h” it will work in 1 of 30 cases.
Even worse is the command for “Play” which never worked for me.

I sometimes get ‘resume’ to work by pronouncing it in German but I absolutely fail at ‘Play’

If these command words would be translated (it really cannot be THAT many within the app) everything would be fine.

Thanks Dom C and moussa.uk for the continued efforts on the app. It’s been some turnaround from when we had next to no input from developers in this forum to having a great dialogue and insight into the progress of the app. I’m sure Elan deserves some credit here too :wink:

No better way to top it off than the app coming out of preview today. Here’s to more nice updates in the future and hope you guys have a great Christmas!

P.S: Direct play subtitles would be an awesome gift :stuck_out_tongue:
