I've been on the fence about getting the Xbox One for some time. Plex on the Xbox One could just be the push to get me off the fence. That said, I'd really like to see how well the voice control and hand gestures work with the Kinect sensor. Once Plex is released on the Xbox One, would someone be able to put together a quick video showing some of the interface, voice control and the hand gestures?

I'm sure someone will put together a video shortly after release, but from my experience during development (and testing), I have to confess that i've fallen in love with the voice commands. I love being able to walk out of a room (to see if my kid's ok) and say "Xbox Pause". And then when I enter the room, without the need to grab a remote, just saying "Xbox Play". I'm probably a geek, but I find it cool evey time! :)

I agree with Ian, it's just cool. Every time I use my voice to control XBO I feel like I'm living in the future. :-)
Play/Pause/Home/Volume etc. are easy - the most difficult problem with voice control is that you have to remember the precise phrasing for commands... there are many, and you have to be exact.
Is there a comprehensive list anywhere containing all of the voice commands the Plex app supports on the Xbox One?
Also, can I use my voice to select particular shows/movies? For example, can I say, "Xbox, Play The Big Bang Theory"?

No, there are very few "custom" voice commands. We allow full navigation though, for which you can say "Xbox Select" to have the interface change to show the support commands...

IanB and the Plex crew! This is amazing, thank you so much for all your hard work!! Who knew shouting commands at your TV could be such fun?! Plus it all looks and works really slick
Any plans to add more custom commands jumps to sections etc in the future? Would love to ditch the remote fully and become a total lazy bast*rd...

I don't think we've yet decided, tbh. If we can come up with a sensible set of voice commands that would compliment the application, without going over the top, they'd definitely be considered.
Ian
What are all the Xbox voice commands that are relevant to Plex?

Say "Xbox Select" and you'll see everything that you can say.

Im guessing things like jumping to sections would be an obvious one. Along with search for movies etc, page up page down blah blah. Im sure between us we could think of a few...
Its great to know you're willing and its not a no. Plus im sure you have a few bugs and features higher up the list

Im away from the Xbox, was just interested to hear from the community to get me excited before i get home.

The application already handles enough to allow full navigation, e.g. "Select Server", "Page Next", "Item 1", etc. It's one of the requirements from Microsoft that it must be fully useable with just voice. The "extra" voice commands are the ones that we'd need to consider... e.g. "I'm feeling lucky" == play random movie ;)

Back when we all thought Tyson was going to be first out of the gate with a Plex app for Xbox, we were all sold onto the idea of creative voice commands such as, "Xbox, fast forward (X) seconds," or "Xbox, pause until I get back," which would automatically resume your show/movie when it recognized your return, among others. I for one was very excited by the ideas of voice input as many seemed very helpful.

"Xbox, pause until I get back" would be longer than saying "Xbox pause" followed by "Xbox play", so not entirely sure what the value of that one is :) Like I said in my earlier post, if we can see clear value in adding some custom voice commands, we'll do it...

Ian,
First off, kudos and cheers for this app! Not to mention THANK YOU!
I wanted to bring up one issue were having though, a small albeit slightly annoying one. When we (my wife or I) say “Xbox goto Plex” the Xbox interprets it as “goto my apps”.
Is this common? Neither my wife or I have any speech impediments.
Thanks again!

Hey,
Thanks for the comment, it's been a bit of a hectic release and just very happy to finally get it into users hands!
I'm guessing that the default voice controls is struggling because "Plex" is not in the standard dictionary. I believe there is a way for applications to phonetically spell names to help out the system, but i'm not sure if thats available for the home screen. I'll speak to our Microsoft contacts to see if they can suggest anything.

Will Tyson still be able to release the app he was working on. So far, I have to say his definitely sounds more appealing to me. It was going to make great use of the voice and recognition features of the Kinect which your app currently doesn't do and by the sounds of it, will never do. What is the reasoning behind not rolling his stuff into this app?
Not to sound like a complete turd, I think it is great that you guys made it onto the system, but this is definitely a hype deflator after hearing Tyson's plans.

Thank you!
Ian,
I thought it weird that neither of our voices would get the app to launch, so I fully restarted my X11 and VOILA! It works like a champ!
My MacMini is going to be very lonely now…
