Chromecast broken (not the March 2025 Google issue)

Sorry i don’t have an ETA. This was working for me just yesterday on Android and today it is not. Uses the same api as Apple iOS which also works fine for me.

No worries @BigWheel ; I just want to make sure this doesn’t close “due to inactivity”.

If there are logs I can provide somehow, please let me know; I do not know what logging level is needed or where to get them in the app, but I’m more than willing to help with troubleshooting as necessary.

hey. there is no logging level in the mobile app. The logs can be gotten from the About section of settings. Thanks.

I’ve got the exact same issue. Hope there’s something that can be done. I use teamviewer on my iphone to use plex on my pc as a workaround, but I just want the app back.

I also have this problem (or a similar one).
EDIT: I think I’m describing this other bug report: Chromecast No Longer Supports H264 Direct Play

Cast to device, Plex logo appears on screen
Select media to play, and it looks like it’s going to play for a split second, then goes back to the Plex logo.
If I select a TV series, it will rapidly “flip” through each episode before going back to the Plex logo.

If I look at the media server log, I see these kinda things for every item that it is attempting to play:

I would expect the “not enough CPU” message for items that it needs to transcode (as Plex is running on a Raspberry Pi4), but I get the same message for media that I have successfully Chromecasted from that server many many times in the past.

Also cannot cast with the new app.

If they ever update PMS to not support the Old app before fixing this… I guess I just have to move on from Plex… Might keep it for music as PlexAmp with sonic adventure is great, but more or less doesnt work for me for watching anything on the new app.

I can now stream from other libraries, but not my own.

I can also use somebody elses library, but not my own! Very weird.

It’s been fixed for me in Android app version 2025.17.0. I can cast my videos to a Chromecast as in the old app, including others libraries and my own.

The only difference with the old app, is that I do not see a preview and description of the video before playing, when it is selected in the app, and app is casting. Although it is not a significant problem for me, I’m happy that streaming to chromecast works again.
