Chromecast ultra 4K HDR HEVC Direct Play

Hi, I’ve just bought a Chromecast Ultra but when I’m trying to watch a 4K HDR movie Plex start Transcoding it in h.264, I’ve tried with a 720p HEVC file not HDR and everything is working in Direct Play as it should

I’ve already tried to change the Chromecast profile in this way

But it didn’t work

What can I do?:cry:

Player Version#: 1.40.156414

Were the audio files, containers, and subtitle files the same type for both? I suspect, since it doesn’t seem to be video codec related, it’s one of those… Though I can’t be certain.

Hi, Audio files both are AC3 5.1 subtitle off and both are .mkv files
I don’t understand what trigger the transcoding

Looking at the Chromecast Ultra supported media it should work but it doesn’t

I’m not entirely sure, but I don’t see support for mkv files listed there. Am I misunderstanding something?

Try using a fire-stick 4k ive had no issues playing 4k HDR files on that. I just saw your problem today when i tried using my old chrome-cast ultra 4k with plex and it gives me the same issues your having same files play great on the fire stick 4k though. I should have purchased more of them since they where only 25$ for black friday.
