4K HEVC direct play to Chromecast Ultra not working

Have any of you managed to direct play 4K HEVC to Chromecast Ultra? I read through a (very) long thread on this subject, but didn’t find any updated solutions, and the thread is now closed. I saw that some of you tested different adjustments to the chromecast.xml, so I’m wonder if you have had any luck with that recently.

Does any of you have any clues here?

Share some more info about your file - the XML. I know people have done this successfully.

4K H.264/AVC is an issue.

HEVC should be Ok.

Are you getting errors? What are you experiencing?

Thanks for replying. This is a file I have trouble playing on Chromecast Ultra. The funny thing is that it plays without problems on Nvidia Shield, DirectPlay:

That seems pretty straightforward.

And I don’t know how much help I can be, I’m not a Chromecast expert. I believe that should be within the Chromecast’s capabilities for video.

Audio can also trigger transcoding. I believe some of the recent issues with Chromecast have been related to transcoding because of audio.

What happens when you try to play this media? You didn’t mention an error or the symptoms.

I actually don’t get any error message. When I try to play it either through iOS or Android and cast it to the Chromecast Ultra, it just doesn’t start, only loading screen and spinning wheel.

Sadly I don’t have much to suggest.

Gather logs and share them.

You need somebody with a deeper understanding than me - and a Chromecast  - to be able to investigate.
