Chromecast with Google TV 4k - Plex client reboots while attempting movie playback

Long time Plex user but this is my first post - hoping this is the correct forum for tech support.

Have recently run into a problem when trying to play movies using the Plex client on Chromecast with Google TV 4k. After I SELECT “Play,” the client spins for a few seconds and then reboots. The problem is consistent and re-creatable across all of my CCwGTV devices, HOWEVER, it is intermittent in that it only happens for some movies. All the usual troubleshooting methods (re-cycling, etc.) have been tried.

This appears to be happening only on the CCwGTV client, because the problematic movies play fine on my other Plex clients for Samsung, Android and the Web. The movies also play without issue using other players, such as PowerDVD.

Any insights/advice greatly appreciated.

I’ve been having more and more random playback issues with the Android TV player lately.

Things that have helped for me:

  1. Bring up the web client, select the file and click analyze.

Then try playing.

  1. change quality to “convert automatically” as soon as you start playing.

Thanks very much. I tried the “analyze” solution but unfortunately it didn’t work. I don’t get a chance to “convert automatically” as the client immediately reboots without giving me a chance to do so. Thanks again for your input.

This problem is getting worse for me. I’m experiencing an increasing number of titles that won’t play on CCwGTV Plex clients. Is anyone else seeing this?
