Playback on Chromecast with Google TV broken?

As of today, I am unable to play back any media from my Plex server (plexmediaserver-1.42.1.10060-4e8b05daf.x86_64 on a Linux PC) on the Plex app (v10.30.2.3548) on the Chromecast with Google TV. I can see/navigate to the tv show or movie and then attempting to play it results in an orange spinning wheel displayed forever. Yesterday it was fine. Only the Plex app is misbehaving on the Chromecast - other streaming apps are fine, casting works, etc

Interestingly enough, the Plex app on my Android mobile phone and Android tablet (v2025.22.0) is fine and has no such issues.

I’ve attempted to do all the usual shaman voodoo stuff - reboot chromecast/pc/router, reinstall the Plex app on Chromecast - to no avail.

The only weird thing I did notice was that attempting to enter Settings in the Plex app on the Chromecast (as per instructions in https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/) causes the app to exit (or crash).

Anyone else experiencing something similar? Or any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?

Well, this is weird. Googled “plex app spinning wheel” and first hit is a reddit thread titled “All of a sudden I only get a spinning wheel when I try to load any video”.

And the magic solution is, drum roll, force close the Apple TV app. So I did that in the Chromecast with Google TV and, magic, the Plex app on the Chromecast with Google TV works again. WTF.

I’ve had the same issue on my Google TV everything BUT 720p works perfectly, works fine on my Chromebook, PC, Mobile and iPad.

It’s only started happening since the most recent update so I’m assuming that’s screwed something up

I’m having a similar issue. I find that direct playing my local files results in a spinning wheel. If I tell Plex to transcode the file it works, but I don’t want to have to do that…

I have a Linux server and the Plex client is on a Chromecast with Google TV 4k. If I try to play these same files using Kodi, it works just fine.
