Totally stuttering here too on my Google Tv. 2 device . I think it have been 1 month now. Its work on DLNA on tv no stuttering from Plex server. So its the Chromecast Plex app. Stutter on my laptop too . Running server from nas
It would be good that Plex or Google (if the problem is system wide) do something⦠I can not watch half my moviesā¦
Iām having similar issues.
Recently replaced defective server hardware, so was initially thinking that was being the cause or maybe a bad rip, since it was a newly added movie.
When playing a movie the sounds seems to play normal, but video freezes every second or so. This is when playing on original quality.
When I set it to convert automatically it seems to play normally. (Have not watched an entire movie this way, so canāt confirm the issue is bypassed this way.)
When I then set it back to original quality, I get the message that the available bandwidth is insufficient to play the movie at the selected quality. However, the bitrate is detected at 35 Mbps, while watching a different movie at 37 Mbps is no problem.
FPS and resolution switching were both already disabled.
Enabling FPS switching in the app or in the OS settings does not help.
Convert automatically probably activates transcoding so thatās why you only see the problem when playing in original quality (i.e. direct play).
Yes it does. However I almost always watch media using transcode since the DVD/Blu-ray subtitles need to be burned in.
Also watching the same media on the web client or mobile (Android 12 phone) gives no problems.
No issues streaming multiple Blu-ray movies concurrently.
I seem to be having these problems as well on my CCwGTV. Any word on a fix for this? Iām almost tempted to get a Shield Pro, but Iām not sure if thatās having issues too.
Shield Pro is Night and Day better than CCGTV. I have both
Have you had a lot of problems or bugs with the Shield Pro? It feels like I have to fight with my CCwGTV every other weekā¦
No. Not at all. I have a 2017 Shield Pro and a 2019 Sony Android TV⦠Plex (and everything else) works great on them. I got a 2022 Samsung The Frame TV because we have a room where the only place for a TV is over the fireplace. Tizen absolutely sucks for Plex (and in general). I got a CCGTV for it. It initially worked well except for Plex with LiveTV DVR. The Android 12 update made everything worse. Not just Plex. Bought another Shield Pro and it works perfect. No issues at all.
Well there is one thing with Live TV. Nvidia hardware has a flaw with MPEG2 decoding which is pixelization on some fast motion. It only shows up on NBC for some reason. You wont see MPEG2 anywhere but broadcast TV so most people wont ever see this. If Im watching an NBC recording (Sunday Night Football) I can force a transcode to H264 to correct it.
Something I will add is in my search for a workable Plex device I tried a Roku 4K stick on BF sale for $25. Big use case for Plex for us is live tv DVR. Record and timeshift past commercials. NFL is big use. The Roku actually worked very well except for one flaw that may not matter to others. Plex on Android FF/REW is 30/10 sec and you can see where you are. A block of NFL commercials is exactly 5 clicks of the remote. Less than a sec to get by them. The Roku is 10/10 and a scrubber comes up. The picture does not update so you cant tell where you are. Was not a workable solution for me. If this is not an issue for you the Roku seemed to work pretty well
The other thing about a Shield is it is the one and ONLY device that will pass full HD audio from Bluray rips so there is that if it matters to you
Thatās good to know! Honestly I may end up picking up the shield pro since I did buy a Dolby Atmos capable sound system before getting into Plex and I was quite sad to find out I couldnāt play True HD audio with the CCwGTVā¦
I also have problem after Android 12 update. I used to set the Audio Passthru on Optical and AC3 encoding. Now, it has problem direct playing any AC3 and DTS 7.2 audio movies. DTS 5.1 movies plays just fine. After setting Audio Passthru to HDMI, the AC3 movies are no playing fine (direct play), but DTS movies no longer play. So, I think the audio transcoding is the issue with Android 12 update.
Ditto for me. I just got the CCwGTV so idk how it used to work, but a lot of my content stutters like crazy. Funnily enough, itās only the 1080p content. I have a 4K movie and ripped the movie and extras (movie on 4k, extras 1080p). The actual movie is fine but extras will stutter. Transcoding fixes it but itās annoying that direct play wonāt work.
Will continue to lurk until thereās a solution.
Just bough a Chromecast with Google TV 4K on sale and unfortunately rebuilt my entire server before I thought to check the forum. I have the exact same issue as has been described as per the above users and are hoping Plex fixes this in a coming update. I have yet to test it out with Kodi, VLC and Jellyfin, to see if they have the same issue for me or not, but I will do so over the weekend. Cheers.
Just updated to the latest server version 1.30.0.6486-629d58034-x86_64 and it all worked as before. Set Audio passthru to Optical. No more transcoding issues. Thanks to Plex team.
Correction. With Audio Passthru set to HDMI, DTS will not work, while set to Optical, the E-AC3 will not work. Sorry.
It seems to be a CCWGTV Android 12 issue, and not a Plex-issue, as it is affecting Kodi and Emby as well.
Kodi, with a video showcasing the issue, just as it appears on Plex and Emby: https://www.reddit.com/r/kodi/comments/yfyg3j/choppy_video_on_chromecast_with_google_tv_after/
Chromecast-subreddit, where lots of people are reporting back with the same issue:
It seems that some lucky people have been able to solve this issue by factory resetting their device twice or thrice, and gained more storage space as well, but Iāve reset mine five times and I still have the same issue. Hopefully an update from Google will solve this issue sometime in the future.
Cheers, and have a great weekend everyone!
EDIT: I found this on the Emby forums where user bigw00kie has captured it on video and sent it to Google:

And on December 1st he posted an update saying that Google has fixed it internally and will send him a fix to try out:

No further update as of yet, so I assume they have yet to send him the fix to try out, but good news for me and everyone else, Google is aware of the issue and have fixed it internally. Weāll just have to wait for them to push an update to our CCWGTV.
temp. solution. try NOVA Video Player and disable hardware video acceleration. SW mode is enough up to 1080p content, i think so. It may be enough that google deploy the update.
Any chance of a Plex developer chiming in on this issue? Iāve been having this problem for months and am unfortunately thinking that the only solution is to get rid of Plex and find another product to base my system around.
From what everyone else is saying, it seems to be a problem with the new Android TV version. It broke a lot of different video players, not just Plex.
Is there a way to downgrade while waiting for the official fix? Quite frustrating.
i got a new update to my Chromecast. Not fix itā¦
