IMO, instead of trying fix the existing issue with Android TV 12 devices (it broke on both CCwGTV 4K and CCwGTV HD), please support the new framerate matching API (begins in Android TV 11) where there is now a OS level user control in Android TV 12.
Same here, with resolution and/or framerate match enabled, Plex stays looping trying to playback (spinning circle) and the server control panel don’t register any playback attemp.
Tested with latest stable Android Plex app for Google TV and latest stable Windows Plex Server.
There’s also an other function that is now broken, if I select Dolby Vision as preferred mode in GoogleTV settings, it can’t playback HDR10 content, I have to manually change to HDR and then I can’t playback Dolby Vision content. It happends with every app I tried (Plex, Emby, YouTube…).
It’s Google fault, not Plex,so, bad testing phase in this firmware release…
Wow, it’s true. If I change to Dolby Vision Low Latency it works as it should.
So this confirms it’s a bug on Google side, if we select Standard DV it should work as Low latency DV, in other way it’s nonsense.
Spinning wheel as others have reported. This happens after some flashes on the screen to let you know it’s refresh rate is going fail and you will be just watching a black screen with an orange spinning circle. It’s very aggravating that the Plex app for chromecast is so problematic.
I was able to watch my content by disabling auto refresh rate and auto resolution. After that , it would play in a miniature box. I can go into the Play Settings (within the video that you are trying to watch) and change from Original to Letterbox to make it watchable.
This is with PMS current beta with W10 and CCwGTV now with Android 12. The picture and sound quality for the other apps really is impressive with the upgrade, unexpectedly, as it was pretty crappy before the update - that is except for the Plex app which is shitting the bed and not playing content at all without having to jump through hoops just to be able to get something to play.
The setting should almost always be Letterbox. Letterbox scales the video to fill the screen without altering the aspect ratio. The setting is persistent. You do not need to change it for every movie/show you watch.
Original displays the original resolution. If you play a 1920x1080 video on a 3840x2160 screen, you will see a 1920x1080 video in the middle of the screen with black bars on all sides.
So you are saying that once I changed it to Letterbox within a video, it will stick? I haven’t attempted to watch anything else since (after disabling auto refresh rate & resolution). I don’t see an available setting to assign the aspect ratio globally within the app.
I don’t have a CCwGTV, but all three devices run the Plex Android TV app.
The setting is also available in the Plex Android Mobile app.
Yeah, it is a global setting that is only available when playing a video. Not sure why it is not in app settings alongside refresh rate switching, etc.
Just adding my voice that as of yesterday, after updating the Chromecast TV, Plex won’t play anything any longer. Same issue - revolving ircon. I followed some of the advice above such as selecting letterbox (which was already selected) did not solve the issue.
We have switched back to our older Firestick for the time being, but would really like a solution!
It’s a temporary fix, sure Plex developers are on the way to fix the issue. Other media apps do the resolution and framerate match fine with the CCwGTV in Android 12.
