Chromecast with Google TV E-AC-3 Error (not to be confused with lack of codec support)

Server Version#: Version 1.32.4.7195
Player Version#: Unknown will update when possible (Latest)

To be clear I know that Chromecast with Google TV (CwGTV) doesn’t support E-AC-3 or AC-3 because Google can’t do anything right. This is a separate issue. I did as much troubleshooting as I could before posting this. I only had a day with the device because I borrowed it from a co-worker.

With “Video Stream Transcode” disabled (for something like a Raspberry PI or Mini-PC, the media does not play at all. The UI says “Error failed to play media”, in the more info part of the UI the video codec says “HEVC (Copy)” and the audio codec says “Transcode reason E-AC-3 not supported” and tries to convert it to Opus.

However it doesn’t transcode the audio to Opus or show up on the dashboard.

Conclusion: I believe this is an issues with the profiles created for the 2 variants of CwGTV when video stream decoding is disabled. Is there anything I could do personally to contribute towards fixing this?

Solution: On the Chromecast ‘HDMI Passthrough’ should be set to ‘HDMI’ along with all the usual settings…everything set to ‘Original Quality’ and ‘Automatically Change Quality’ set to ‘Off
