Chromecast works better than Android TV app?

I had started a post previously having issues with some higher bitrate stuttering issues with my Sony 4K TV I recently purchased. I tried a solution using the chromecast from my phone feature instead of the Plex app on the Android TV system built in.

I am just curious if anyone can answer the question why the Chromecast device can play the same content almost flawlessly, which the Android TV app struggles every minute or two? I’m not technical enough to know the player styles or anything like that. What I do know is I have the same ethernet cord plugged into the back of the TV, and chromecast plays the higher bitrate files while the app does not.

If there is a reason, why does it still exist in the app? Just a curiosity post more than anything.

Thanks!

I have similar issue with my Mi Box S. While using Plex Android TV app I’m frequently experiencing stuttering (every 8 to 10 seconds), but the same video played via Chromecast feature (still on Mi Box TV) is working without a hitch.

It is very frustrating that is how it is, seems like it shouldn’t matter built in Chromecast or Android app. If anything I would want the standalone app to be better.

You are correct in pointing out the Chromecast is not connected via ethernet, although I don’t know how the built in feature in the TV is handled for internet access. I do not have a separate Chromecast hooked up to my TV. I have also tried disconnecting the ethernet cord and running wireless through the Android TV Plex app and that does not function any better.

All that being said, I do agree that the TV is underpowered, and quite honestly seems most smart TV’s seem to suffer. The one basic area that they could improve is just adding a gigabit LAN. It is just irritating that I have to Chromecast some content because it stutters too much in the app. The only solution that seems to hold any merit is that the Chromecast device carries a larger buffer, thus requiring little buffering. If that is any bit accurate I couldn’t begin to say, just seems like my experience.
