Stuttering with live TV on Chromecast with Google TV

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046
Player Version#: Chromecast with Google TV, Plex App
Tuner Make/Model: Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD

I’m a new user. I can watch Live TV in my Chrome browser fine on localhost. There aren’t any stutters or gaps, and I have an external antenna with a good signal generally.

However, when I watch on the Chromecast with Google TV using the Plex app there it stutters with live TV. I’m very close to the router and am connected at 5GHz with a nice strong signal.

When I look at the Plex localhost dashboard it says that it’s sending Direct Stream to the app. Is there a way to add a bit of a buffer or something to avoid the stutter or some other settings I can tweak to make it work more smoothly?

Thanks for any help.

Should have posted computer specs, I assume.

  • Core i5-10400,
  • 32GB RAM,
  • Windows 10 Pro 20H2,
  • Radeon RX5600XT,
  • 500GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive.

I tried out the Chromecast with Google TV and also had bad video quality. It seems to be a issue with the video codacs on that device.

Thanks so much for this! It’s useful to know that it’s a Chromecast issue.

Your post triggered me to just look for the Plex app on my 2017 LG OLED. I found it there and it works much better!

I have been fighting this for months. I finally installed an older version of the app I found online via sideloading then disabled automatic updates. Has been much smoother since. Using 8.5.2.20133.
