About 2 months ago, I purchase the lifetime pass for Plex. Since then, I now have a lot of problems casting to Chromecasts. I’ve even bought a new Chromecast to see if the ones I had were the issue.
I can get them to work, but it takes about 30 minutes each time. I do a number of operations and each time I am successful for a different reason.
I’ve had Plex working properly for about 5 years now, and no options were touched that should lead to this.
since then I’ve tried the following:
-updating all firmware, apps and the media server. (Have updated about 2 times since this started.)
-Setting all devices to the 5g network (Sometimes some were on the network’s 2.4g but this never caused an issue before)
-Resetting my router, all chromecasts and reinstalling Plex media server from scratch and the app.
-I’ve changed the channels used by both networks and tried switching everything from the 5g to the 2.4g. still no solution.
When I do try to cast, what happens is that the chromecast seems to be connecting for about half a second and then returns to the screensaver (picture displayed by the chromecast when not casting). Sometimes it jams on the connecting command and takes about 5 minutes to crash (or I go cast from youtube to cancel out the previous command.)
I can do this for about 20 minutes before I actually get to watch the show I’m trying to cast. Usually I’ll make it crash a few times by repeatedly trying to cast, then sometimes restarting the router helps, but not every time.
All my other apps are casting normally, this is ONLY a problem with plex.
