Cinema Vision implementation [Feature Request] // mod: or successor „PreShow Experience“

Hi,

I believe CinemaVision.tv has a great set up and very robust system in place to allow users to create “Pre-show” content. This content includes coming soon trailers, media codec specific pre roll clips, and even movie trivia that has User interaction.

For those of you who still have no idea what I am talking about. Let me break it down. Currently plex allows the ability to stream trailers and a preset video of our choice prior to the start of a movie once you have selected to play a movie from your library. This is often times called the “Pre Roll.” I currently have my set up to play two coming soon trailers and a THX & Dolby Digital Video I put together.

This is great, however the content is always the same and never changes.

Cinema Vision provides the ability for you to customize your Pre-Roll experience by being able to create custom Pre Rolls based on the content you are viewing. Not only do they provide trailers, but they also provide Codec Specific Clips “bumpers” (I.e. THX, DTS-MA, Dolby Atmos, Etc…), and Movie Trivia cards with User interaction capabilities.

It would be great if the Developers could provide an ability to integrate Plex with Cinema Vision.

For those curious about what Cinema Vision is. Their site is cinemavision.tv/

They also have a long video (33min) that shows what it can do in great detail.

Here:

For those of you interested, you may also find other user created demo videos of Cinema Vision out on the web. Just search for it. I have found plenty, but didn’t want to post because it included a lot of other info that wasn’t specifically associated to this request.

Please remember to “Like” this post if you wish to vote for it. Thank you!

Disclaimer I am in no way associated with Cinema Vision.

This would be an amazing idea! I mean, Plex already has a Pre-roll integration but to have a trivia addon before the movie would be great along with the media codec.

Overall,
I would love to see the:

  • Codec Specific Clips “bumpers” (I.e. THX, DTS-MA, Dolby Atmos, Etc…)
  • Movie Trivia cards with User interaction capabilities

The trivia would be amazing!
The Codec "bumpers would be amazing as well!

+1 for this request. It is the only thing I miss from Kodi. :frowning:
Would be great to have it in Plex.
As far as I know, the Cinemavision team is also interested.

Glad you guys gave me a +1, can’t believe this isn’t getting anymore traction.

+1 for all the above reasons.

I always loved Plex, started with it in fact, then I heard about XBMC and tinkered with it, and thats where I came in contact with Cinema Experience, now defunct and CinemaVision has replaced it. However I loved the fact that Plex managed everything and was viewable everywhere I needed with the Plex Server and the Client. So I gave up on XBMC/Kodi. But recently I’ve gotten into Hue Lights, and smart outlets etc. So I’ve wanted to setup my basement TV like a home theater, with trailers and bumpers etc.

Sure Plex has that trailer feature, and the one spot to play a pre-roll video but it’s clearly not sophisticated yet. So in the basement I went with a Mac Mini running Kodi and setup CinemaVision and pointed Kodi to my media library that plex also sees, but now I’m at the point where they don’t keep each other updated (i.e.: I watch a movie on plex, it doesn’t pickup, or mark as watched on kodi and vice versa.) Sure there is the Plex Plugin which I installed, but CinemaVision doesn’t interact with that.

The developers of CinemaVision clearly would like to talk https://cinemavision.tv/forums/topic/878-plex-support/

The concept of CinemaVision integrated with Plex would clearly be the best of both worlds.

+1

As long as it’s done tastefully and in the style of Plex, I’m all for enhancing the feeling of being in the cinema. Dimming the lights automatically with Hue support would be amazing! Interactive trivia I’d prefer to be optional though.

Currently in CinemaVision, everything is optional, you can choose how you want it to feel be it Trivia, Trailers, Coming Soon Screens, Movie Ratings, etc. Thats the beauty of it.

The missing piece of the Plex Pie!

Just wanted to bump this too; one of, if not the only thing I miss since migrating from Kodi.

The total & scriptable movie theater experience CinemaVision offers is sorely missing from Plex.

Would be really nice to have this in Plex. My whole house is on Plex except my home theater where I need to also have Kodi at the moment for Cinema Vison. Would be really nice to just use Plex for everything.

I’ve often thought this when using the trailers feature, they’ve gotten so repetitive that I’ve switched it off, shame really. Never heard of CinemaVision until now, but sounds like a great idea, I’ve voted!

I love this idea, I currently use Plex everywhere except my Home Theatre because of this feature. I need light, AV, and Projector control. Cinema Vision controls all of this beautifly on Kodi, but does not have the finish I think Plex has. Also because Kodi does not use a Server/Client type relationship, you have to design each Kodi box and maintain each separately. With Plex if I change the Settings on the Server all of the clients see the change, making Plex a more viable option for whole house video/audio. Long story short I would Love this feature.

Please take a look at adding CinemaVision into Plex. It is very customizable and everything can be tweaked easily. Since the folks at CinemaVision are open to working with you, I am sure it would be a win for everyone. I personally have built slide packages for CinemaVision so you know I am a fan of the product. I run Plex everywhere except in the theater due to CinemaVision missing from Plex. Would love to just run Plex everywhere.

+1 on this as well. This is the only thing keeping me tied to Kodi so I am running both platforms at my house right now. I would love to rely solely on Plex, but the Saturday night CinemaVision experience we get through Kodi is keeping us there.
I would love to see CinemaVision integration with Plex!

I still keep Kodi around, praying for the day CinemaVision would be implemented into Plex. Please make this happen!

I would like to add my vote for this feature. I am a PlexPass user and would gladly pay for a Plex-based Cinema Experience addon. Although Plex does now have trailers and pre-roll videos which I use frequently the experience is a bit lacking - it’s just trailers and a pre-roll video. What makes Cinema Experience a main-stay in my household and the only reason we still have a Kodi box is the ability to set up a true cinema feel.

For those not quite sure about how it works or for an example of a power-set this is my usual: I host a movie-night once per month. At a certain time (using home automation integration) Cinema Experience fires up and launches into a brief introductory video followed by an “intermission” slide with music then trivia then more music. Next up is a Mama’s Movie Night intro followed by several trailers. Queue the dimming of the lights via home integration … Cinema Experience then detects the codec of the main presentation and plays an appropriate codec-intro (DTS, Atmos, THX, etc). It then detects the MPAA rating and plays the associated slide followed by the main feature. During the ending credits or after the main feature home integration kicks in and ramps the lighting back up.

There are also post-movie options which I occasionally use such as a movie-related trivia and a Thanx for Coming (now go home!) theatre outro (queue home integration to ramp up the exit path lighting lol). As you can see I am somewhat a power user and use most of the features available. I would gladly pay a fee, price, or subscription to have this feature available within my Plex system. Potential revenue stream for Plex / Cinema Experience?

One of the things I like best about Plex is I can skip all of the lead in crap on the original source, and just watch my selection.
At this point it would be best for the Plex development team to use their time perfecting what they currently have, and leave boondoggle features like this in the wish list.

at least a -100 on the need scale.

I would love to see this implemented. I was using Kodi with Plex Kodi Connect to have it connect to my server, but it’s too glitchy and tends to fail so I’ve switched back to Plex Media Player for my home theater system. Cinemavision is the main thing I greatly miss for creating a more “realistic” theater feeling.

I would also like this feature implemented, perhaps as a plug-in so that it doesn’t get in the way for standard users but is available for power users. This would allow me to move to Plex completely.
