Hello fellow plexers, here I am, posting what is probably the 5000000th topic about issues with claiming new servers (seriously… I lost 3 days already trying to get this fixed, if there were another platform like this I’d switch in a heat beat).
Everyone should know the issue by now from the gazillion forum topics out there about it. But here it goes:
I got a Virtual Private Server, linux.
Installed plexmediaserver
Opened it and tried to claim the new server
Got Not Authorized.
I already tried so many suggestions…
Adding allowedNetworks
Claim a new token (I must’ve claimed 15 token just yesterday trying different suggestions)
Add new token to Preferences.xml
Add new token to environmental variables
Uninstalling and installing again, using Ubuntu GUI, using system…
Check permission
Tried SSH connection
Literally nothing that I do works… I’m able to log in on my account but even Lucifer can claim this cursed server.
I’m really lost and about to just give up on Plex and curse it for the rest of my life.
Can someone be the light at the end of the tunnel here? (please don’t be another train coming…)
Some VPS providers will not claim due to excessive ToS violations.
– Where do you have it hosted ?
SSH to the remote machine.
Download my claim tool on that remote host – OR – scp it from your machine
Please see the README.md. I show example sessions on how to use it.
(PMS must be shutdown for it to work correctly)
Run it on the other machine through your SSH session. it talks to Plex.tv using a claim token you provide it and does the claiming for you with a claim token you get from your local browser (https://plex.tv/claim)
Hey Chuck, thanks for replying. My VPS is with Webdock.io:
Location: Europe / Denmark Type: KVM Virtual Machine Profile: NVMe Bit Image: Ubuntu Gnome Desktop
I tried your script like 10 times, got success message on 9 of them, but still, can’t even see the server when accessing (after running your script).
Here’s the steps I took:
Downloaded you ZIP file directly in my VPS (/home/luca/Downloads/UserCredentialReset-main.zip)
Extracted it right there
SSH from my local PC into the VPS using terminal
Elevate priviligates
Ran ./UserCredentialReset.sh
Claimed the token from my local pc and pasted
Got a success message
Open PMS on the vps and couldn’t see the server.
I did similar process but getting the claim token from the server, from my local machine again, trying to access it first on my local machine, then on the VPS. I also tried ./UserCredentialReset.sh -p '/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml' to make sure I was parsing the correct Preferences file.
Is there any specific step I need to do after running your script?
