What % of users uses each client
I guess that the developing priorities of the plex team have been discussed before. Or putting it more accurately there have been quite a few efforts to get an idea of that list or a roadmap etc.I know the answer so far and I am fine with it.
Priorities change fast so there is no point in announcing any. I also agree that the element of eagerness combined with that of surprise creates a cult around the product. I am fine with that too.
However being a great (although "low profile") fun of the magic that plex gives us and one that feels excited every day that a plex twit shows up pointing to a new release I cannot help but wish for something else close to this issue.
I am guessing that the web client is on the forefront of development at this stage. I myself do not use it other than playing with it. Without a doubt it is great and it packs great features that the desktop client envies. I use the desktop client and server on a Mac mini, the appletv2 client and the iPad app almost every day so I know my priorities.
In this context I thing it would be very much interesting to see some percentages of the device distribution for plex usage. For example what is the percentage of users using:
- the Desktop Client from a Mac or Mac mini
- the client on AppleTVs
- Windows Servers
- Linux Servers
- NAS devices
- Roku's, LG's, Samsung's etc
- WebClient
I wouldn't know if this information is private for the plex team only or even if it gets collected somehow. But it would be great to see that wouldn't it? Maybe then I would understand why the desktop client has been left behind. Or has it not?
If this cannot come up as an info how about a poll among the users somewhere here like...
"Which client do u use more often? Select each relevant choice for the list below starting with the most frequently used one and proceeding as follows".
Makes sense?
Keep up the great work.
A great fun.
