Cloud Sync

Well, I thought I’d try out something available to me as a Plex Pass Lifetime member, but I can’t seem to get it to work.

I have an Amazon Cloud unlimited account…

I linked to it from Plex just fine and as a test, I synced an 800 mb TV series episode and it uploaded from Plex to my Amazon Cloud fine.

I selected the Cloud Server and it showed up under TV Shows.

I clicked PLAY and I get the error message (see attached pic)…

Not a very smart or intuitive error message …

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Doug!

Keep in mind that Cloud Sync cannot transcode. So make sure the device you are playing on supports the video/audio codecs you used to sync with. Also make sure your quality/bandwidth setting in the app is higher than the video.

Thanks…

However, I tested it remotely using both the iPhone App and also from my MacBook Pro (running OSX).

The iPhone version doesn’t throw an error message, but just crashes the entire app back to the home screen. I get the same error screen on the MacBook Pro client as shown in the above…

The file type is an MKV file and the server sync upload was 720p 4Mbps which is what I’m showing 720p 4Mbps on the MacBook Pro Plex Player.

Doug

I cannot guess what could be causing the problem. Can you recreate the issue, then provide the server and client logs?

I changed the Plex upload to my Aamazon Cloud Server be a 1.5Mbps 480p type file and now it streams fine to my MacBook Pro from the Cloud Server.

However, on my iPhone I get an error message (see attached), that when I override it and say “Yes”, play original quality, it runs fine as well?

Follow up…

I checked directly on my Amazon Cloud Server and I notice that the file type there is .MP4? (see attached)

So, I assume it started working on at least my MacBook Pro because somewhere this video got converted to that from the original MKV file type?

His solution is simple, go in the server settings, web, player, and select the original qualities to do the same in the players, and should work

sorry for my bad English

Thanks …

Under Player …

What is the difference between…

Local Quality
Remote Quality
Online Quality

Doug

remote, is when you are accessing from outside, there usually has to be transcoding, but as the server amazon has a high upload, there does not need, and how has no server it to trasncodificar, there you put the original, it will come from it without any conversion

Local is on your local network

They are the ones that u have to worry

Thanks…

Found it…

Local Quality

This sets the quality to use when streaming content on your local network. In most cases, you can set this to a high value.

Remote Quality

When streaming content remotely, you’ll often want to set a lower quality. The quality you can reliably use is typically limited by either your download bandwidth or the upload bandwidth from the source Plex Media Server.

Online Quality

You can set the quality to use when streaming from online sources. This includes Channels and Watch Later items as well as trailers and extras automatically added to your library for Plex Pass subscribers. This is usually limited by your download bandwidth but may also be limited by the network speed of the source website.
