Collection organizing improvements

A couple of ideas I thought of, pardon if there are ways to do this or I’m unaware of something.

I’d like to suggest something be added to the individual main movie info pages such that it shows when a movie is within a Collection. It could be as simple as an added text line with a selectable link to the full collection along with the movie info, or, have small thumbnails of the collection cover or multiple rows of thumbnails of all the movies in that collection along the right hand side. This would help expedite switching between individual movies and collections rather than having to switch over to collections, find it, then find the linked movie.

Also, it would be nice to have the flexibility to have cross-collections or sub-collections for better organizing the larger franchises. Marvel and Star Wars are perfect examples with the multiple storyline “sagas,” individual movies, IP changing companies, TV shows that are intertwined with the movies, and so on. Being able to cross-link between film and tv and divide collections into smaller individual collections.

Finally, please add a way to be able to sort the way the collections are displayed on the main collection page. It would be wonderful if we could select/click on a movie within the collection, and drag/drop or shift it to a new placement within the collection, thereby giving us the ability to have the movies showing in the order we prefer rather than by chronological release date.

Thanks

We already do. Scroll down.

Being able to cross-link between film and tv

This much is possible, but not the others. You need to name the collections the same. See above image.

That’s already possible. Have you tried?

Re: drag/drop

I wasn’t aware of this either. Today I learned, thanks!

No, I don’t mean showing the individual movies on the main Collection page. I mean having some way to show on the individual movie info page that it’s part of a Collection. Something like shown here:
A - Included as text with a link to the Main Collection Page, or
B - Small, selectable thumbnails in the upper right area of the individual movie info page showing the other movies in the collection, maybe with a “COLLECTION” header above.

As for the drag-and-drop, I thought I’d tried it but I must have been mistaken. I see now that it’s possible, which is great. Thanks for pointing that out.

There’s actually already an existing suggestion discussing an option to list which collections an item is a member of (considering different handling if a movie is a member of one or more items).

As MovieFan.Plex has pointed out – you can already do some of the other aspects of your suggestion. As for the ones you cannot currently do there exist other suggestion threads too.

e.g. option for nested collections or sections inside collections

Yes. Those hubs I showed are at the bottom of any of the Star Wars movies.

I believe that only one collection is displayed below a given movie, correct?

So if you don’t see the collection you expect to see, you may see a different collection that the movie is also a member of.

@anon18523487, if a movie is a member of multiple collections, which one is chosen for display?

Correct, only 1 collection is shown. AFAIK, the collection shown will the one that appears first in the XML, which is typically whatever it was added to first.

2022 clean-up:

  • implemented (related collections / cross-library association)
  • duplicate (display all collections, nesting/sections)
